KMAX-FM Sold (December 1995)REFERENCE: mostly care of the LA TIMESAll-sports radio station KMAX-FM (107.1) has been sold by Douglas Broadcating to Odyssey Communications of New York. PD Keith James says Odyssey plans to keep the all-sports format stating "The sale is a positive thing." John Douglas, chairman of Douglas Broadcasting, owned the trio of stations known as K-MAX -- Sports to the Max in the Los Angeles/North County San Diego area. They were KMAX Arcadia, KAXX Ventura, and KBAX Fallbrook, all Class A stations and all on 107.1 FM broadcasting 3kw. More KMAX - the station has dumped the annoying evening duo "The Sports Gods," Dave Smith and Joey Hiam, who seemed to think they could say anything on the radio. Suspended recently for offensive on-air remarks, this LA RadioWatcher never could identify what a PD had originally found engrossing about their presentation style.
