Centre Daily: In much of the Western world, the days of children gathering around radios, as Roger Taylor wrote in the hit Queen song "Radio Ga Ga" are long gone. In an age of iPods, iPhones and SiriusXM, antenna radio's once strong signal is fading rapidly - Staff Sgt. Brad Ruffin, 42, served in the Marines before joining the Army. This soldier is ready for battle. Yet while deployed to the Iraqi capital, one of his most important jobs has been entertaining U.S. troops and Iraqi citizens on American Forces Network-Iraq's Freedom Radio.

Gary Lycan: While we wait to hear if all the talk of Jim Ladd possibly joining KSWD 100.3 FM is more a reality than a dream, The Sound is making some noise all on its own + Mark Austin Thomas was let go as part of the reorganization at KABC 790 AM. Larry Van Nuys is handling news duties in morning drive.

Are 94.9 and 96.1 going to flip formats soon? Could 94.9 rebrand itself as new rock and 96.1 take on country?

Thursday afternoon and evening, Clear Channel San Diego had four stations playing talk: AM 600 and 1360, FM 95.7 and 105.3. Only three were playing music: 93.3 and 94.1 playing contemporary pop, and 101.5 playing classic rock. 105.3 still plays active rock, but runs Charger talk and the play by play games. Could XTRA 1360 soon be simulcast on 101.5, while the formats of classic rock and active rock be fused together on 105.3?

Roger Hedgecock To Move to KFMB (Nov 8, 2011)

KFMB 760's website just made the announcement that the Roger Hedgecock Show will be moving to KFMB 760 on Monday, January 2, 2012.

See the TV report here

But since January 2 is a legal federal holiday due to New Year's Day falling on a Sunday, I don't expect Roger to do his first live show until January 3; expect reruns or special programming on January 2.

Roger's presence on 760 KFMB adds to the lineup of Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck and Mike Slater.

The future of Rick Roberts, however, still remains in doubt. No word whether he will bolt for another station.

Roger Hedgecock Press Release (Nov 8, 2011)

I wanted you to be one of the first read the exciting news release about the future of the Roger Hedgecock Show! - Roger

NUMBER ONE TALK RADIO SHOW MOVES TO KFMB
The Roger Hedgecock Show to begin airing on Talk Radio 760 KFMB-AM after new year

(San Diego, CA) - For over 20 years, The Roger Hedgecock Show has dominated talk radio in San Diego. Starting January 2, 2012, the popular host will make Talk Radio 760 KFMB his new radio home.

"I am excited to join the KFMB family that has been a staple of the San Diego community for so long," said Roger Hedgecock. "I've been planning to bring our show to multiple platforms, and KFMB will make the perfect partner for doing that."

"KFMB has always been about mirroring our community, and Roger is synonymous with San Diego. No host reflects the views and concerns of San Diegans better than Roger", stated KFMB Program Director Dave Sniff.

KFMB Radio's General Manager Gina Landau said, "As we get closer to the 2012 election, we're thrilled to have Roger lead the conversation and coverage on 760 KFMB." Roger's presence on 760 KFMB helps to complete an already potent line-up that includes Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck and Mike Slater.

Roger is widely known as "The Radio Mayor" because of his term as Mayor of the City of San Diego, which he served after six years on the San Diego County Board of Supervisors. Combined with almost a lifetime living in San Diego, Roger brings a unique perspective to local, state and national issues resonating with people who live in the region. This is why Roger has long maintained and continues to increase his numbers as the highest rated* talk show in the area.

The Roger Hedgecock Show was syndicated nationally in 2009 and now the power and popularity of his show is being shared with Americans everywhere from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. weekday afternoons. His show is heard daily from San Diego to the East Coast and from the Gulf Coast to the Northwest. Bring the show to multi-platforms for his national audience will make it the first of its kind coming from the west coast.

Roger Hedgecock's popularity has long made him a media favorite well beyond his Southern California base. Prior to being nationally syndicated, Roger served as the #1 guest host for Rush Limbaugh for almost 10 years. Roger is frequently featured on Fox News and CNN as well as on C-Span's "Washington Journal".

Roger's wide appeal for media is well-deserved. While he enjoys high audience ratings as a talk-show host, he is clearly a man of action who frequently goes far beyond just talking about the issues. With a continuing campaign that he calls, "Hold Their Feet to the Fire," Roger has led hundreds of his listeners on a series of trips to Washington, D.C., encouraging them to take on the nation's political leaders as "citizen lobbyists." Roger also frequently takes his show on the road bringing his radio audience directly to where they can make the most impact throughout the country.

Mutterings (Nov 8, 2011)

At about 1:15pm, KOGO AM and FM (er, KUSS-FM) carried a live Fox News report about the guilty verdict reached in the trial of Michael Jackson's doctor. During the KOGO newsbreak at 1:30pm, the news person gave a teaser that the verdict will be announced later. Huh? Why are they rerunning their news updates? This rerun really tarnishes the credibility of KOGO.

Fox Business: Sirius Trouble: Is Satellite Radio Headed for a Fall?

Daily Mail UK: Research shows that for the first time in history Radio 1's average listener is actually 32, according to research, up from 29 three years ago. And the audience for the breakfast show presented by 37-year-old Chris Moyles is even older, at an average age of 33.

Los Angeles Times: Rock radio DJ Jim Ladd talks about KLOS dismissal. Ladd logged a total of 20 years during three separate tours of rock 'n' roll radio duty at KLOS. A fixture on the Southern California airwaves, Ladd also chalked up nine years at the defunct station KMET-FM before it dumped rock for an easy-listening format dubbed "The Wave," as well as time at L.A.'s short-lived KEDG-FM ("The Edge") and at the station where he got his start in 1969, KNAC-FM in Long Beach.

Radio Ink: Are you ready for some testing?!? On Wednesday afternoon! You'd be hard pressed to find anything, that will only last sixty seconds, that has been as heavily promoted as the national EAS test planned for Wednesday. The test of the Emergency Alert System was recently shortened to 30 seconds instead of the originally planned two and a half minutes. This will result in a total test time of approximately 60 seconds including the data burst tones. The test is being conducted by FEMA, in coordination with the FCC and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. It's the first ever nationwide Emergency Alert System test and it will take place Wednesday at 2 p.m.
