Just In: Dave, Shelly, and Chainsaw OUT at KGB (Jan 4, 2010)Let's just say that KGB-FM is not only toast, but the Clear Channel cluster in San Diego is toast since there's basically no leading morning show team on their FM cluster.Clear Channel lost Tony and Kris, Jeff and Jer, Mikey Show, and now DSC. AJ is basically a shadow of his former Playhouse self. My analysis: it's the stupid employer. I did a check on KGB-HD2 and it's confirmed. There's no more Dave, Shelly, and Chainsaw channel. It's just dead air. What a great way to program an HD channel, Cheap Channel! And http://www.dscshow.com/ is Forbidden. It's apparent that Cheap Channel took down the show's website. The 101kgb.com website explained that they negotiated and were unable to reach an agreement to keep the show with KGB. It's Clear Channel's fault, plain and simple. They screwed with the on-air lineups too much. People are fed up. Whats a lucrative deal anyway? Lucrative compared to what? A job at Burger King? We'll look forward to hearing Bob and Tom on KGB in the future.
News and Comment: DSC Gone From KGB (Jan 5, 2010)SDNN: Popular morning show team ęDave, Shelley & ChainsawĘ now off the airComments from the readers: From Ray: this on top of Mikey gone from Rock? Now DSC is gone just weeks after Mikey disappears. What kind of booze is Clear Channel drinking? I won't be listening to either station because of this. From Justin: Dave Shelly and Chainsaw got me through each morning. I only listened to them in the mornings but listened to other stations after they left. After 20 years, they're gone from the airwaves. Now I will no longer be tuning in KGB because of no more DSC. KGB took down everything about DSC except for their generic explanation about DSC leaving. This is bull. From Carl: I hope DSC comes to XM satellite radio like Howard Stern did so they can entertain me in the morning. From Bob: I hope that Clear Channel loses all of its listeners from their stations for the way they treated their jocks. They let go of the deejays because of a money dispute. At 10pm, Coe the middayer was crying over our complaints about DSC being gone and how she's working two jobs and that radio isn't the way it used to be. Guess what? Radio hasn't been the way it used to be since corporate radio ruined the playlists of the music years ago and made them unlistenable. The morning shows at KGB, Rock, Channel, My, US 95 or whatever, 1360 when it was once KPOP with the now deceased Happy Hare, and KOGO when it once did news, were all under Clear Channel's roof and at that time they were actually doing something right in the programming. Now Clear Channel has lost their morning shows one by one that drove in their listeners. Clear Channel San Diego hit an iceburg just like the Titanic. It's sinking. CC is rearranging the deck chairs. The signature morning show hosts are jumping ship. Now CC is worth even less as a cluster than it was last week when they still had DSC. All the syndicated morning show hosts are not funny and are boring. Bob and Tom are a total bore. I hope KGB gets Bob and Tom on so they can suck in the mornings. That's all Clear Channel is doing with San Diego radio today. I hope Clear Channel sells off their stations because they can't do crap with them! KGB is no longer on my presets. From Gary: San Diego radio sucks! It sucks! All of the quality radio talent is gone with the loss of DSC. No Cantore? Jeff and Jer still don't have a station. Tony and Kris left town to greener pastures. Mikey's show is still there but without Mikey. Adam Carolla is no longer on here and not in L.A. either. Tom Leykis is still without a radio gig. What does Clear Channel do? Move A.J. to another station? Great move. Bring in some syndicated shows? Voice track Ryan Seacrest in the middays. Clear Channel won't pay for talent anymore. They'll just voice track in the jocks from another state and they're done. From Steven: KGB is blowing it big time! I tuned in KGB HD 2 and it's dead air! I hope another station grabs Dave Shelly Chainsaw show and makes a run for it in the ratings. 94.9 should hire them pronto. From Aaron: Well, there goes 2010, off to a great start because Clear Channel won't pay big salaries to morning show hosts anymore. Mikey is gone. DSC is gone. What's for me to listen to? From Ben: STUPID! Clear Channel should sell their stations and get out of town. I hope they go broke and everybody replaces the presets with stations not run by Clear Channel. From Jay: Dave Shelly and Chainsaw were the best even if David Tanny the editor of this website doesn't think so. I'm guessing that Tanny is secretly celebrating their abscence of the airwaves somehow. From Brenda: Clear Channel loses three top morning show teams in four months. That's faster than CBS cancelled two soap operas in eight months. I guess change is happening faster than ever. I tuned in between Jeff and Jer, DSC, and Mikey for the good stuff. Now there's no more personalities in the morning that I can look forward to hearing. From Michael: KGB is losing big time with the loss of Dave Shelly and Chainsaw. Anybody want to take bets on when Clear Channel will move XTRA Sports to 101.5? From Barb: Disapponted in both KGB and DSC. Just settle for less money just to stay on the air. But no. Guess I won't bother with them anymore. From Alexander: That was a total shocker. I thought Dave Rickards was cool when KGB rehired Ruthie 66 to the station last month or so. What happened? Did KGB piss him off with something else? From Sherman: I hope Clear Channel enjoys all of the changes that they made because all they'll be getting from the advertisers are change. Who wants to pay for stale music playlists in the morning on KGB? KGB was great only because of DSC in the morning, but the rest of the day sucked and I tuned into another station for the rest of the day. I hope Dave Rickards starts a podcast or its own Internet radio station so he can be on live in the mornings once again. From Tyson: F--K YOU CLEAR CHANNEL! From Harry: Clear Channel's plan to push away the high paid salaried morning teams in favor of lower salaried jocks is working like a charm. They managed to get rid of three overbloated morning shows in less than a year just to save some money. Wow. I'm impressed, Clear Channel. I didn't know they can do that. Clear Channel is on its way to oblivion at this rate with the way they are treating their deejays. They want to turn San Diego radio into a puppet of San Antonio radio with no local personalities. Great move. Syndicate some no name talent from Phoenix, voice-track Ryan Seacrest, have nonamers as morning show hosts doing nothing but play music and read liner notes from cue cards. This is bulls--t! From Dylan: Unfreakingbelievable! DSC was the good stuff. Good riddance, KGB! Hope that all of the former jocks combine to buy 91X and turn that into a talk station with DSC in the morning. From Susan: I just got done tuning out KGB and Rock in favor of other stations I don't care to give publicity to until they hire DSC, Jeff and Jer, and Mikey. They were the best of the lot. From Tom: BRING BACK DAVE, SHELLEY, AND CHAINSAW, NOW!!! From Russ: Clear Channel's desicion to lose another marquee morning show illustrates that the company doesn't learn from their mistakes. Lost Tony and Kris. Lost Jeff and Jer and the entire Showgram. Lost Mikey but retained the four remaining Mikey Show cohosts that don't ring a bell. Lost Dave, Shelly, and Chainsaw. Why don't Clear Channel just take a torch, burn down its building, and take a tax writeoff and be done with it if they don't want to run a radio business. From Mecham: Firing all of the morning show hosts for what? Syndicated voice tracked out of state jocks? Give me a break! From Shirley: I loved DSC in the morning (sorry, David Tanny), and it was something that I looked forward to in the morning. Who is the real retard in radio? It's Clear Channel. Thanks to their bonehead decision to not give DSC what they deserve, Tanny has one less target to make fun of in his blog. From Jerry: Cleared out the Clear Channel stations from the radio presets and set them all to 91X, 94/9, KPRI, Sophie, Walrus, and other stations. No sense tuning in to Clear Channel radio ever again. From Vince: Darkness has fallen upon the radio landscape as the last real talent in the morning, Dave Rickards, leaves the airwaves, all becaus of Clear Channel's insistance on a reduced salary for Dave and his morning show. That's the breaks. Dave should have accepted it in protest and went on with his show. Now KGB and Dave are both losers in this dispute. From Bill: Disputes, disputes, disputes. Time Warner vs. Fox. Clear Channel vs. DSC or Mikey or Jeff and Jer. I'm sick of reading about it. Can't these greedy companies get along with the blue collar TV and radio fan? From Wayne: I want DSC back on the radio. From Abe: It's sickening to think about the in past year how Clear Channel has been treating their radio workers. The loss of Dave Rickards is the last straw. It broke the camel's back. I am boycotting all of their stations including their Charger broadcasts on 105. Go Raiders, 2010! From Kent: Hello more syndicated radio shows from out of the city. Goodbye local talkers. Goodbye me as a listener. Screw you, Clear Channel. From Lawrence: $400 million for Rush Limbaugh in San Diego, or DSC, Mikey, Jeff and Jer, and other radio talent in the mornings, middays, and afternoon dayparts? I choose anything but Rush. There's enough money to go around. Just get rid of Rush and Roger and all will be fine. Too bad Clear Channel can't think about the listeners anymore. From Chad: Clear Channel should just sell each of their stations. They can't run radio. They have too many stations anyway. They sould like crap. From Ian: Let's have DSC on KPRI. It's a better station anyway. KGB's music is boring. From Sam: 94.9 is what real rock sounds like. Not that crap that's on KGB after Dave Shelley Chainsaw. Bring on a new station for Dave to be on and I'll publicize it. From Jan: This is horrible what Clear Channel is doing to radio. Local talent in San Diego is going away. It's all in the name of the almighty dollar. There is no God at Clear Channel. It's Satan doing the dirty work. I guess Clear Channel doesn't bother reading the Bible. Clear Channel will end up the same fate as Sodom and Gommorah did. It will perish! From Daryl: HD Radio was good for just the DSC channel. Now it's dead air. No more DSC on the KGB website either. No reason to keep my HD radio anymore. From Aaron: DSC made me feel good in the morning. They were funny and witty. KGB's music is very boring. It is stale and sh--ty. (editor: did Nipsey Russell channel you with this poem?) From Rollins: How long will it be before KGB flips to La Preciosa? Spanish music beats the crap it programs. From James: DSC did so much for the public and the station. KGB flips them off the air. Some gratitude. I'm no longer a KGB listener. From Homer Simpson: D'OH! (ok, I put that one in myself. Couldn't resist.) From Lance: KGB is worthless! It lost DSC. KGB has nothing but the crying Coe Lewis in the midday and whoever Bryan is in the afternoon. Nothing worth listening to. Just give me XM channel 40 and I'm good all day. From Stu: I hope advertisers pull out of KGB and make it suffer over losing Dave Rickards. From Kelly: Clear Channel, you suck. You lost DSC. You get no ratings because of it. End of KGB. From Stan: What a great Christmas present to us San Diego listeners. No more Mikey and Dave Rickards. It's like we were thrown a ton of coal over the holiday weeks. Thanks for nothing, KGB and Rock! From Peter: KGB sucks. It's dead. From Helen: When will Dave Rickards and his show be back?

Updates: Dave, Shelly, and Chainsaw (Jan 5, 2010)Karla Peterson: KGB's Morning Show Latest Radio Casulty. DSC made the front page of the SD-UT.Dave Rickards' Myspace: Hey Guys, thanks so much for the wonderful letters. We're all heartbroken, truly. KGB is where I want to die, so this is tough. Let me promise you, this was not about us trying to go to some other station. There is no other station. It has always been about KGB, and if it can get fixed, we'll do it. By the way, I'm hearing a lot of "I'm boycotting KGB, and their sponsors". Listen, this is not the sponsors fault, so don't hold them responsible. Cool? Happy New Year to you all! And God bless our military and freedom fighters around the world. Dave Facebook: Bring Back Dave, Shelly, and Chainsaw Dave's wife, Nicole Rickards, has left a few notes there for fans, as has Ruth 66/Nina.
Letters: Dave, Shelly, and Chainsaw (Jan 6, 2010)From Lyle: I am glad DSC is off the air. I was pleasantly surprised to hear music in the morning on KGB-FM for the first time in many years. I like to hear my classic rock when I'm driving to work and late at night when I'm working on a hobby. I don't like talk radio at all. Can't stand Hacksaw on that sports station. I'm glad Tom Leykis is gone. He hates women. I hope KGB sticks with all music all the time and let DSC start up an Internet radio station if they want to keep on talking. From Len: When will Dave Shelly Chainsaw be back? From Brent: ANY possible ideas on where Dave Shelley and Chainsaw are heading?, hopefully as a complete team incl others in the studio? Very sad day for me. From Roberto: I read Karla Peterson's article on another website. What's her problem with your website? She never quotes anything you write in her articles. (editor: Because the newspaper can't afford to reimburse me for using my information, yet they charge 75 cents an issue. Greedy hogs!) From Jace: GO RAIDERS! CHARGERS SUCK! ROCK 105 SUCKS! From Chaz: Seeing the morning deejays not accepting a pay cut just shows us that they don't understand what is going on with radio. I heard Garrett at 94.9 today explain why they had to cut Mike Halloran, a longtime music director and deejay who was once at Flash, X, and Independent. Advertising revenue is down. 94/9 lost money. The suits at Lincoln decided that Halloran wasn't delivering the music mix the listeners wanted. Understandably, Halloran's term came to an end, and possibly a career as a radio employee. That's sad. DSC on the other hand delivered great ratings in the morning, but that's it. Clear Channel had problems with advertising revenue reductions like Lincoln did (30 percent was quoted by Garrett). KGB wanted DSC to stay but at a reduced salary, but DSC said no and had to leave. In this case, it's DSC that's at fault for not understanding that the radio market of 2010 isn't the same as it was in 1990 when they were just starting to earn a name for themselves. They earned millions. That's great. They were offered a contract that didn't pay as much due to the economic toughness. They could have said yes, but no. They rejected it. DSC is out. They're at fault. The listeners should be targeting their anger at Dave and the crew for not accepting the pitiful contract Cheap Ass Channel was offering them. DSC is worth millions, but at $500,000 a year, then they should walk. I don't know what they were offered, but if it was 60 percent of what they were once making in 2009, then that would have what they should have accepted. Too bad. I guess they're done. From Wyatt: I never listened to DSC at all so I don't know what all the fuss and coverage is all about. From Sara: KGB is no longer on my car radio presets. I will give a button to whereever Dave, Shelly and Chainsaw land next. I'm just flipping around the radio until I hear them again. From Kenny: It's about time radio brought back music in the morning. KGB did. Hooray. DSC and all of the talk morning shows were dreadful. Leykis is overrated and hates San Diego. It's about time talkers gave way to music hours in the morning once again. From Susanna: I've been listening to my mp3 player for years and don't listen to talk in the morning. I'll listen to Jack's worn out small record collection before I'll tune in talk radio. With DSC out, I might give morning radio another shot if they're just going to play music at KGB. Then again, my large mp3 collection will do nicely and it has no commercials.s From Gus: Bring back Dave Rickards. He was the s--t! (editor: that's urban for "the best") Clear Channel on the other hand is nothing but s--t! (editor: when you leave out the word "the" before "s--t", then it referrs to the word bad. Get it?) Clear Channel did its s--t to s--t on the good s--t! The good s--t don't take any s--t from s--t! S--t on Clear Channel for losing the good s--t!
Feedback: DSC (Jan 8, 2010)From Gary: KGB made a big mistake in not using whatever they had in keeping their morning shows. They lost their morning news show in favor of talk. Boring. They have a sports talk station that nobody listens to in the morning or all day. They lost all FIVE of their marquee FM morning shows including AJ's Playhouse, which was turned into AJ in the morning on another station. 93.3 airs a pair of synidcated jocks from another city in the morning. They might as well flip 93.3 back to FLZ's simulcast like they did in 1996 when Jacor first bought the station. Turn 94.1 into KIIS-FM simulcast and have Ryan Seacrest LIVE in the AM instead of on tape. Make 105.3 into a puppet station for 98.7. Move all of Clear Channel's studios and sales staff to its Burbank studio to save costs. Flip 95.7 into a simulcast of KOST, 101.5 into a simulcast of KBIG, 1360 into a simulcast of 570, and 600 into a simulcast of 1150. Now that's saving money. Maybe they could hire the morning show teams back with the savings? Nah! Clear Channel will just use the savings for nationalized contests. Terrible mistake. From Rick: This sucks. I tried every station but it's no use. Dave, Shelly, and Chainsaw were the bomb in San Diego. Now there's nothing but boring talk all over the dial. I read that 96.1 is moving to San Diego. Let's see Dave Rickards get his show on KSIQ and drive the listeners towards the station. From Jen: I like to see Q96 be more like the old Q106 in San Diego was in the 80s playing the fun top 40 hits. I would listen to it instead of 93.3 which is boring. From Benjamin: This is the new KGB-HD2? Chicken rock is what I describe it like the old 136 KGB was. How original. Put on old imaging from the days of mellow rock KGB-AM while they're at it. Whatever. From Laura: It's been four days and my commute has been pure hell. KGB needs to get DSC back now. I'm going insane with bad morning radio on other stations including the Mikey-less show on 105. Mornings suck without DSC.
