THE IMPORT OF A RADIO FAMILY (TEAM)

Have to make mention of the Jeff & Jer story. Contract renewal time comes and Clear Channel balks at a renewed deal that includes the Jeff & Jer "Team." The guys are a twosome but acknowledge "they are family," when it comes to their show. Consequently the bargaining with Clear Channel included the show "Team."

Clear Channel apparently didn’t want the "Team," just the duo. "Let’s cut some costs here okay guys?" Now most radio folks would do the el-foldo and sign up. Hey everyone for themselves, right? Not Jeff & Jer. We guess they figure their show is good cause it’s a group effort and they place a value the folks who make daily contributions.

So as you might expect I am two hands clapping. Applauding Jeff & Jer and crossing fingers that rumors are correct and they’ll be on the air at Midwest in a matter of days….with their "Team."

I never ran into Jeff & Jer at the CC Command Center on Granite Ridge. If we passed in the hallway I didn’t know who they were, nor their team members. I do remember a great deal of announcement when the pair moved over to CC from another San Diego station a few years ago. Pix of the guys went up on remote vans. Much ado was made. And I guess the ratings on the show were good. The format (whatever it was) is not my cup of tea, so I never have heard the show.

(I do like Dave, Shelley and Chainsaw-is Ruth 66 still on that show? She was blasted away a year or so ago but I seem to recall Dave kept her on somehow…humm, you know anything?)

I was once part of a radio Team that was really successful. But Roger never negotiated his contract in terms that included his Team. He bargained for himself and what happened to the rest of us was up to CC and us. He let each of us know that he was divorced from our financial dealings with CC. Which mostly meant we got no raises from one Roger deal to another and got no contract. Roger’s wage went up, ours did not. We were a team in the very loose definition of the term and family not at all…..in the end he dispensed with half the team with his latest new deal.

I really am not bitching. I could have departed at any time but my pay off was Homefront San Diego, working to Save Our Cross, supporting Traditional Marriage, Securing Our Borders, Mary Fay Pendleton Elementary and Escondido Charter High School etc. I could pay my mortgage and the work that the show did was a bonus. It was a really great show put on by a really great Team.

Anywho, a tip of my hat to Jeff & Jer and his TEAM. These guys have Trux Nutz.

Cesak told The San Diego Union-Tribune on Thursday that negotiations with Clear Channel stalled because the media giant refused to extend a renewal offer to the five people who regularly contribute on-air to the Showgram: "Little Tommy" Sablan, Randy Hoag, Laura Cain, Delana Bennett and Emily

Griffiths.

"We are a family show done by a core family," Cesak said. "We won’t do a show without our family. That’s unacceptable."

MUTTERINGS

**Drove into D-town SD City on Wednesday morning. A Downtown Rotary Club breakfast meeting to speak up for Homefront San Diego. On the streets at about 6:30am. Yikes, the city is occupied. Homeless folks everywhere. Doorways, store fronts, rolling shopping carts. Every block. I guess I haven’t been down that way in a while.

**The breakfast session had to do with the Rotary Clubs annual Holes For Heroes golf tournament, slated for September 25th at the Admiral Baker Golf Course. A good measure of the proceeds from this event will benefit military service charities and organizations. Homefront is way pleased to be one of those beneficiaries. So I ask that you consider signing on to play or even become a sponsor. Get full details here:

It may be important for me to mention that with the demise of Roger’s local radio show, Homefront San Diego has lost a vital daily communications platform. Folks would listen to our daily HFSD updates and were often moved to send us a few dollars. Absent that platform…well, you know.

And it’s not like the need for our services has diminished. Our hotline still receives daily calls from low ranked enlisted Navy and Marine families who need FOOD, car repair, cribs and newborn stuff, financial help, furniture (picture a Warrior, his wife and child sleeping on air mattresses). Thanksgiving and Christmas are fast approaching…the season when our services are most needed.

So send me a dollar will ya? Make checks payable to Navy League/SD (put Homefront San Diego in the memo blank) and mail to 2115 Park Blvd, San Diego, Ca 92101. You can also donate to HFSD on line at:

http://www.navyleague-sd.com/Donations.htm

(web site is a tad out of date, but your donation will get to us…and did I remind you that Homefront has no OVERHEAD….every penny of every dollar benefit’s a military family in San Diego County).

**The Obama administration held an immigration forum, was it earlier this week? I read a story on the session and it mostly had to do with complaints that Obama is not moving quickly enough to satisfy the Open Border folks. That prompted the ponder: Can you have a real immigration forum without having Secure Border folks in attendance?

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0809/26308.html

Still the devil his (her) due? I go up to check quickly to see if the Great Talker still has "Fire Napolitano" on his web site. He do. Which is all fine and good and feeds the savage throng…but snow ball chance in heck to start…and second…do you really want to fire her?

A) ICE prosecutions continue to rise under Napolitano - http://trac.syr.edu/whatsnew/email.090820.html

B) She has not called off immigration raids. They continue.

C) She has started audits of employee hiring documents at more than 600 businesses nationwide.

D) She has expanded the E-Verify system and has enhanced the speed and accuracy of the system.

E) She has expanded the jail house checks on every person booked seeking out illegals.

F) She has expanded the 287(g) program to partner state and local law enforcement with federal immigration enforcement. And she has refused demands that Sheriff Joe Arpaio be kicked out of the coop program.

Yea, let’s get rid of her….Fire Napolitano sounds like a cry from the Open Border folks to me.

**Cash for Clunkers set to end. A whole lot of cars got moved and U.S. carmakers are even ramping up production and bringing line workers back to the line. You may disagree but I think the program worked, tho as is typical, gummint wasn’t able to deal with the response. When something gummint does actually works it’s a surprise even to folks in gummint.

What now? I don’t sell cars but I’ve got to guess that dealers get a take away lesson from the C4C program. Price is the motivator. Somehow dealers and carmakers need to maintain the momentum of C4C.

**What the world needs now….of course…is another radio talk show host.

The infamous "Joe The Plumber" — who became the focus of a lot of attention by both parties during last year’s presidential election campaign — tried his hand at being a Talk radio host this week on WSPD/Toledo. Samuel Wurzelbacher talked politics and other topics with listeners during his rookie run on radio and apparently did well enough to cause station PD Brian Wilson to tell the Toledo Blade that Talk radio and WSPD could be part of the real-life Ohio plumber’s future.
