Dehesa Valley Gazzette Online (Jan 8, 2009)http://www.dehesavalleygazette.com/ is the website for Jimmy Valentine, the former producer of the Roger Hedgecock show. The title of his website is called the Dehesa Valley Gazette.Since Roger, his former boss, relinquished the mailing list for use for the Roger Hedgecock Show from Jimmy today, you'll need to visit his website for Jimmy's blog. In the meantime, you can e-mail Jimmy at kogojimmyv AT gmail.com (replace the AT with an "@"). Here's his latest, this one, dedicated to Happy Hare Martin, who passed away on Monday. For future blogs from Jimmy, bookmark his website above. Harry Martin has passed. Got an email from a friend last week telling of his illness and on Monday came word that Happy Hare's studio light had gone out. That "on the air," light radiated across a lifetime span of innovative, creative and good radio in San Diego. Radio your kids could listen to. Radio that most native San Diegans grew up listening to as kids and then as adults. I didn't know Hare in his time of legend making. He was a good friend of Roger's (adored Roger) and came to be a friend of Team Hedgecock. You met Hare once and if he took a liking to you, you were a friend. Taking a liking to him was never a question. Harry ruled San Diego radio, or so I'm told. I know personally that he was a nice man. An energetic man. A guy so full of ideas and enthusiasm that you could feel it across a room. A few years ago as Roger was about to celebrate one of his radio anniversaries Hare came up with a novel idea about how to make note of the occasion. Hare suggested that we get 600 listeners (KOGO AM 600) on the telephone at the same time and sing "The Hokey Pokey." Seriously. Hare wasn't kidding. Hare never kid in the sense that no creative idea was ever to be scoffed at. Actually we would have done the deal except we couldn't figure out how to get 600 phone lines on the air at the same time. Harry cared about people. You were not just a fan of his; you were a friend of his. Folks who knew Hare way better than I will pay tribute and note his place in broadcast history. Comments about Hare can be posted at one of the links below. You may find it comforting to share a memory, a story and a tear. God doesn't make enough nice people. We are short one today. Of a night soon to come may you view the night sky and see a small red glow…and know that Happy Hare is on the air again. http://www.happyhareonline.com/happyhare-bio.htm http://www.chriscantore.com/?p=292 http://bussongs.com/songs/hokey_pokey.php
The Roger Report Newsletter Excerpt (Jan 9, 2009)And now, to keep things balanced, we at SDN present the other side of the issue of the Roger Hedgecock Show mailing list, this time, from Roger himself. From The Roger Hedgecock Show: This is the first daily Roger Report with highlights from the new national show.
