No more crappy TV week which was the only reason I bought the paper. You can find the regular news for free on the Internet. David Copley can't do newspapers right. Let Sarah Palin run the U-T. She has no experience, but she could do a better job than whoever is running the paper. Shakeup at KGB? Clear Channel Rumor Mill re: 95.7 FM (Feb 4, 2008)Posted by atlmid on the radio-info San Diego Radio Board:"After I heard about this going on, I thought, the station is planning to get rid of [Tony and Kris] and probably will change formats, yet again, to what, who knows, and sure enough an old friend in the record business sent me the following inside info:
Bob Bolinger to be out as GM of Clear Channel and replaced by Brad Samuel (at a reduced salary)
Reply by Bob Hudson: ..according to second-hand gossip from some one joined this board just to shine Tony and Kris's apple. Which is not to say it might not happen, but the rumor did come from someone with an ax to grind about CC San Diego management. Bob was always a nice guy at The Planet/KYXY place (although he seemed pretty detached from the programming department) but in a place like Clear Channel where local managers and PD's seem to have no decision-making power they probably could do just as well with someone cheaper who could just as easily pass along the directives from on high and following this year's leverage buyout of CC, the folks in charge have to suck even more blood from the local markets.

The article says NAB, phone carriers and the FCC are all discussing ways to do it. And, they believe that within the next five years every portable phone device could be equipped with a radio chip. Radio interests are pandering to the regulators telling them that putting radios in cell phones will solve a lot of problems pertaining to emergency notification John Gorman: Just yesterday I asked someone who sells satellite radio receivers how many customers ask for one that includes AM and FM. He said none. How many customers ask about satellite receivers that include a port for their iPod or reasonable facsimile? He said many NPR: Delilah is the big thing on the radio at night with an audience of 25 million people. The smooth nighttime radio DJ takes requests and plays dedications. Kurt Hanson: The Chicago Independent Radio Project (CHIRP), a non-profit organization originally formed to create a low-power FM community station in Chicago, has announced plans to launch a webcast sometime between November and January. While CHIRP is still pressing for a low-power FM station, they see webcasting as "completely viable,” said CHIRP president and founder Shawn Campbell in speaking with RAIN. The recent passage of The Webcaster Settlement Act also further encouraged the decision to broadcast online. Cubs fans haven't forgotten Gwynn. Tony Gwynn has seen the ugly side of Wrigley Field, like the day Eric Show beaned Andre Dawson and all you-know-what broke loose. He also saw the classy side of the venerable ballpark, like the day he went 5-for-5 there and the same fans who hurled so many insults his way gave him a standing ovation. So Gwynn's familiar with what happens at Wrigley, is what I'm trying to say. But what he saw Wednesday during Game 1 of the NL Division Series game between the Cubs and Dodgers surprised him. TUBE TALK: Let's make a deal: Padres' network in talks to bring back Vasgersian Matt Vasgersian would like to return for an eighth season as the TV voice of the Padres. Craig Nichols, the man who runs the team's TV partner ---- Channel 4 ---- would love him have him back. So what's the hang-up? "At this point in my career, I'd like to keep working on one-year contracts," Vasgersian said. Tom Taylor on Radio-Info: Mexico follows the lead of Canada, and will allow its AMs to migrate to FM. The government knows there will be spectrum scarcity issues near the U.S. border at places like Tijuana and Monterrey, and down in the capitol of Mexico City. But generally, it expects most AM operators to apply for this once-in-a-lifetime chance to jump to the FM band. (FM inventor Col. Edwin Armstrong might be very happy about this, and General Sarnoff, not so much.) The government’s giving licensees one year to build their new FM facility and another year to shut down the AM operation. There are 854 AM stations in the country and 726 FMs. No doubt the FCC will be watching the frequency coordination issues for potential conflicts. For decades there have been accusations of over-power AM transmitters in Mexico. This might ease up on some of that. Tom Taylor has a daily radio blog he e-mails to members. Just log into his website and subscribe for more. Tom Taylor on Radio-Info: Taylor reports taht two more radio stations went dark due to financial difficulties. As of last night, the AM/FM combo of adult standards “Unforgettable” WOAM (1-kw at 1350) and “True Oldies” WPMJ (a Class A at 94.3 licensed to Chillicothe, IL) are just static on the dial.
