Pirate on 88.9 Update (September 20, 2008)

Yesterday, the frequency was apparently being used for announcing the Bayfair Powerboat Races at Mission Bay. It was not known whether the organization had legally obtained the right to broadcast on 88.9 MHz at a high wattage power, high enough to reach Serra Mesa and Claremont Mesa.

Today is Talk Like a Pirate Day (September 19, 2008)

Frok Wikipedia: International Talk Like a Pirate Day (ITLAPD) is a parodic holiday invented in 1995 by John Baur (Ol' Chumbucket) and Mark Summers (Cap'n Slappy), of Corvallis, Oregon, who proclaimed September 19 each year as the day when everyone in the world should talk like a pirate. For example, an observer of this holiday would greet friends not with "Hello," but with "Ahoy, me hearty!" The holiday, and its observance, springs from a romanticized view of the Golden Age of Piracy.

During the 2pm hour yesterday, an unidentified pirate on 88.9 FM was broadcasting an unpredictable mix of music, anything from pop to country to jazz to whatever.
