Any North County Signals Left? (Feb 13 1/2, 2008)Let's see now...KCEO 1000 in Vista is still locally run, though its mostly brokered financial shows. AM 1450 in Escondido is a simulcast from an Ontario station. AM 1320 in Oceanside is owned by Palomar College. FM 107.1 from Fallbrook is operated as a simulcast of an Arcadia station. FM 100.1 from Julian is basically a satellite station. AM 1210 from San Marcos is locally operated but owned by Salem. FM 95.7 is licensed in Carlsbad, but its transmitter is on Mount Soledad, and has been since its move there from Carlsbad in September 1995. It was once on 95.9 FM in Carlsbad up until that time. It was the first North County radio station to move its transmitter down south. It's locally programmed but owned from a company in Texas. FM 102.1 Encinitas used to be licensed in Oceanside. It's the second radio station to move its transmitter down south. It's locally owned and programmed. FM 92.1 Escondido used to be locally owned and operated. Now it's a translator for KSON because its 97.3 FM signal is blocked by a Riverside radio station nearby. FM 96.9 San Pasqual is the new kid on the block. It's a translator of a Temecula radio station. The landscape for North County radio has radically changed in the 14 years since radio consolidation began in 1994. Most of them are programmed from outside the area. Some are programmed locally but its North County in license city name only.
