Inside Music Media: From Jerry Del Colliano -- I love Oprah Winfrey and I’m not even a woman – at least that’s what my wife keeps telling me. What I like about Oprah is not so much the topics that are frequently but not always aimed at her largely female TV audience, but her showmanship – her show’s production values, the quality, the creativity. So it got me to thinking. What if Oprah Winfrey consulted radio stations?

Inside Music Media: From Jerry Del Colliano -- Radio executives are not dumb. They may be arrogant enough to think their old business model will work in the future, but as the pain of declining audiences and revenue proliferates they’ll even deal with that. So why, you ask, is the industry so secretive, silent and shameful when it comes to HD radio?

Aaron Barnhart: Don Imus was back on the air Monday, 234 days after he was fired by CBS and MSNBC for his remarks about the Rutgers University women’s basketball team. And while much of “Imus in the Morning” sounded just as it did when it signed off in April, there were moments when the star sounded less like a divisive shock jock and more like a presidential candidate pontificating about the need for America to heal its racial wounds

TalkRadio 790 KABC has cleared “Imus in the Morning” to air live Monday-Friday between 3-5am PACIFIC, beginning Monday December 10th, followed by “McIntyre in the Morning,” live in its usual time Monday-Friday 5am-9am PACIFIC

Inside Music Media: From Jerry Del Colliano -- The bane of Lee and Bain! According to the dictionary the word bane means "a cause of great distress or annoyance". That being said, the word Bain as in Lee and Bain, the investment bankers who will make Clear Channel's privatization possible is firings -- massive firings. Ten in Los Angeles alone last week. What better time for consolidators that can't get their share price up like Clear Channel to pink slip people than right before Christmas. Families love to have their breadwinners come home and say, "honey, I shrunk our incomes" (read more - Inside Music Media)

John Gorman: It’s Christmas. Some stations flip to non-stop, non-maintenance Christmas music while they try to figure out why their time spent listening continues to plummet with their regular formats. At Clear Channel, it means it’s time for the annual holiday season bloodbath. The fatality list is too long to list. Ten were whacked in L.A., for starters. Don’t take it personally. If you’re with Clear Channel, the stations you work for are line items – nothing more

Post Gazette: From Adrian McCoy -- In the past, the radio industry was plagued by payola scandals: Stations took money from record companies in exchange for airplay. Now, a group representing recording artists is seeking to turn the pay-for-play strategy on its head: It wants radio stations to pay artists and their record labels when the stations play their music

FMQB: Imus Returns To The Airwaves. Eight months after being fired by CBS, Imus made his debut this morning on Citadel's WABC/New York.

KRTM Correction to Blurt Story (Dec 1, 2007)

Ken Leighton's Blurt Story regarding KRTM getting approval for construction of a new transmitter at Palomar Mountain had several erros.

Excerpt: "In June, the Federal Communications Commission approved construction of a 25,000-watt transmitter on Palomar Mountain that will use the 96.9 frequency. A spokeswoman for KRTM said the tower should be operational by the end of December and that the signal will reach most of San Diego County."

Steve Bessette, GM of KRTM, makes several corrections on the article. He states that the 25,000 watts will be on the station's current channel: 88.9 FM, not 96.9. The construction of KRTM's new tower will not begin until later in 2008, so the station obviously won't be on the air by the end of 2007. KRTM is licensed by the FCC to upgrade their power for their main 88.9 FM transmitter.

KRTM does have a licensed translator on 96.9 since April. It originates from the San Pasqual area and broadcasts at a low wattage.

An e-mail from a reader says that he saw that the FCC has granted them a CP to relocate to Mt. Palomar but on 88.9 at .27kw. He does not see any application or CP for a move to 96.9. "Effective Radiated Power: 0.001 kW(H) 0.27 kW(V)".

KRTM broadcasts religious programming originating from Calvary Chapel Bible College in Temecula. The stronger 88.9 transmitter should reach most of southern Riverside County, eastern Orange county, and Northern San Diego county. A Tijuana broadcaster on 88.7 MHz would limit KRTM's reach into the southern half of San Diego county.
