Pride Comes to Channel HD2 (October 19, 2007)
It's a whole new feeling of pride.
Clear Channel radio finally got a underserved niche covered.
Basically because Sophie's HD2 channel is playing house music?
Whatever the reason, we now have two HD channels in San Diego playing
dance and electronica music.
Yet I still don't own an HD radio receiver.
But that might change.
You don't have to be gay or a chick to enjoy Pride Radio on Channel 93.3's HD2 side
channel.
The channel does not affect the current programming of CHR Channel 93.3
Replacing a Spanish language side channel, Pride Radio brings
in original mixes and re-mixes from artists like Madonna, Christina, Gwen, Justin,
Scissor Sisters and more.
There's also the divas such as Whitney, Donna Summer, and Janet Jackson.
Pride Radio celebrates all things Pop Culture and Entertainment - with Ryan and Caroline.
Living in New York City and best friends for years, Ryan and Caroline have been
called radio’s "Will & Grace".
Their show features “I'm Coming Out” Listener Stories, Movie Reviews, Travel, Style & Health,
Live Entertainment, News, and dishing the latest dirt with celebrity gossip blogger,
Perez Hilton. Plus, listen as they interview gay celebrities and icons such as RuPaul,
Carson Kressley and Janice Dickinson.
Upcoming guests include Amazing Race's Reichen Lehmkuhl; Joan Collins and
former New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey.

And now, the South Park Big Gay Al Boat Ride theme song:
We are gay and it's okay,
'cuz gay means happy and happy means gay,
We're not sad anymore,
'cuz we're out the closet door,
It's okay, hey, to be gay.
Or be depreseed if you're not feeling gay.
Says Darren Davis, Clear Channel Regional Vice President of Programming. “The music will be mostly upbeat, dance-oriented, and energetic. It's an idea that's so fabulous; we just had to do it in High Definition on HD Radio.”
All of the HD2 channels are commercial-free and there has never been a subscription fee necessary to listen to HD digital radio. HD2 multicast allow stations the opportunity to provide niche formats like Pride Radio for communities that may currently be underserved.
Listeners who have an HD radio receiver can hear HD2 and HD3 channels that are broadcasting in their areas.
From Wikipedia:

The Wires (October 19, 2007)
Randy Dotinga:
KPBS-FM changed formats last week on its subchannel and nobody seemed to notice or call the station to complain, a surprising development considering how rabid KPBS listeners are about griping when the station does anything.
Why do few people care about HD? There's the cost and the fact that the technology isn't in cars unless you pay extra.
KPBS plans to begin offering a second subchannel, known as HD-3, within the next few weeks. In a bit of a switcheroo, it will offer a format called "Groove Salad" that was previously on its first subchannel, known as HD-2.
Despite its godawful name, Groove Salad apparently has an audience, at least on the Internet. It features a lot of "chill" music that helps people relax and, if they're HD Radio executives, forget their woes for the moment. (Listen yourself at somafm.com.)
Meanwhile, a 24-hour classical music feed from Minneapolis that provides programming to KPBS at night replaced Groove Salad on the station's HD-2 subchannel.
Meanwhile, you can find Spanish-language subchannels at 107.1 FM and 99.7. At least one FM station ---- KSON ---- broadcasts in HD but doesn't have a subchannel.
