Notable Nominations for 59th Annual Emmy Awards (July 21, 2007)

The past season of 2006-07 was the worst TV season in recent memory ever. Very few shows in the past season made any waves in my life.

Only "Heroes" has some degree of geekness, but "Ugly Betty" and "Grey's Anatomy" gives all except for the chicks a case of the creeps.

There have been better times for non-animated comedies. This season had none worthy of my time in my humble opinion.

Here's a few notable categories worth my time. Again, the editors of the Union-Tribune left these notables out of their newspaper Friday.

Best Children's Program: Hannah Montana, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, and That's So Raven were among the nominess, all on Disney Channel and ABC.

Veronica Mars and Kristen Bell didn't get any nominations.

Some other notable nominees:

Lead Actor in a Drama Series: Denis Leary, Rescue Me.

Lead Actress in a Drama Series: who cares?

Supporting Actor in a Drama Series: William Shatner, Boston Legal. Mentioned only because he's a veteran Star Trek actor.

Supporting Actress in a Drama Series: who cares?

Lead Actor in a Comedy Series: Steve Carell, The Office. Probably the best prime-time can do as a sitcom, and it doesn't interest me much.

Lead Actress in a Comedy Series: Julia Louis-Dreyfus, The New Adventures of Old Christine, and Tina Fey, 30 Rock. Both veterans of Saturday Night Live.

Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series: nobody I know.

Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series: nobody I care about.

Miniseries: didn't watch any of them.

Made for TV Movie: never watched any of them.

Variety, Music or Comedy Series: The Colbert Report, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Late Show with David Letterman, and Real Time with Bill Maher. All worth my time.

Guest Actors and Miniseries categories? No thanks.

Reality Programs? One worth my time and I can't get it because it's on pay-TV. Penn & Teller: Bulls....(WHAM!)...hit!

Reality-Competition Program? Boring!

Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program: Ellen DeGeneres, 79th Annual Academy Awards, Stephen Colbert, The Colbert Report, Jon Stewart, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, David Letterman, Late Show with David Letterman, Tony Bennett, Tony Bennett: An American Classic.

Animated Program (Less Than One Hour): Avatar: The Last Airbender, Robot Chicken, The Simpsons, South Park, and SpongeBob SquarePants.

Main Title Theme Music: Dexter, Hu$tle, On the Lot, 30 Rock, The Tudors. None of those stick in my head, except for one not on the list: "Best of Both Worlds," the theme song from Hannah Montanna.

Variety, Music or Comedy Special: Comedy Central Roast of William Shatner, and Lewis Black: Red, White & Screwed.

Special Class Program: Jerry Seinfeld: The Comedian Award, and Prince Super Bowl XLI Halftime Show.
