Leftover Headlines (Jun 30, 2007)

Genie Francis won her first Daytime Emmy Award after first appearring on General Hospital over 30 years ago when she was only 14. Makes us all feel old thinking about it.

Paris Hilton is out of jail. Big deal.

Sophie is the Media Hog of the Week. So many people were talking about the chick rock format named after her in all of the Tom Leykis fan-run petitions and forums, most of it unfavorably.

July 15th has been declared Doomsday as Internet radio is likely to shut down in the USA. Expect many webcasters to flee to countries that give SoundExchange the finger...the middle.

The iPhone went on sale yesterday, whatever that is. I'm still trying to get the hang of using my iPetRock.

David Letterman says on his TV talk show that he wants to marry Paris Hilton.

Christina Applegate's new sitcom has been changed for the second time. It's now "Samantha Who?" This just in. Alyssa Milano is suing Christina Applegate because the name "Samantha" was the name of her "Who's The Boss" character. A catfight in the courtroom is sure to happen. Expect Alyssa's new show to play a character named Kelly.

On Larry King, Mark Larson missed Paris Hilton by...that much!

Channel 4 San Diego is showing reruns of, believe it or not, Little House on the Prarie, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, and Andy Griffith Show, according to my Windows Media Player program guide. What? They couldn't get What's Happenin!?

Letter writer in the Union-Tribune complains about giving Paris Hilton a third of the second page in the "A" section on Wednesday.

Hannah Montana released her double-CD on Tuesday. Subway restaurants promoted her in the stores. The biggest audience? Incarcerated dirty old men in prisons. Next biggest? 29-year-old Purebred Southern redneck cowboys. Leads me to wonder who Disney is really marketing this teenage girl to. Clarissa and Blossom didn't get this much attention back in 1991.

Some 14-year-old teenage boys fantasize about Paris Hilton...ten percent wishing they could BE her!

The representatives at CBS Radio San Diego have not responded to my query regarding 103.7 after a week. A timely press release or your side on flipping 103.7 to a chick rock format would have sufficed.

Whimsical Will's 22nd Summer Movie adventure premieres on the Dr. Demento Show, no longer heard locally or on the Internet. Good luck finding a pirate website to hear the show.

Clear Channel San Diego isn't doing anything interesting.

KYXY and Sophie are interfering with my reception of LA's 96.3 and 103.5, like I care. They're broadcasting in HD now. Fry's can't get a radio display going to receive HD radio right.

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" is the most-watched show on my computer. Next were "Family Guy", "Robot Chicken", "Aqua Teen Hunger Force", and, yes, "What's Happening!" Where the hell did cable do with the reruns of "Eight is Enough?"

Tried listening to Adam Carolla and Tom Leykis on 97.1 this week after 103.7 dropped their shows and the talk format? Good luck finding a spot in San Diego county where KSON 97.3's HD signal isn't causing co-channel interference with 97.1. HD radio sucks!
