103.7 To Change Formats? (Jun 22, 2007)

Two websites say it's so. Is it?

Rumors are SURF-acing that 103.7 could become a new out for oldies from the 60s and 70s as K-Surf 103.7.

Says Lance in the radioinsight message board: "My only doubt is the fact that neither site is hosted by the company that manages the majority of every other CBS Radio site. I want to say this is to throw people off the scent, but I'm not willing to put my money where my mouth is. If anything this could be a play off of the KSCF calls."

Tom Leykis says that "two of his affilliates are going to flip soon" on his radio show. Low ratings prove the rumor. You'll know it when you hear the change. 101.5 Free FM in Phoenix is gone. Is 103.7 next?

Looks like he'll be out of San Diego, as well as Phoenix.

To listen to Tom Leykis and other Free-FM shows that won't be heard in San Diego soon, bookmark these website now:

http://cbsplayer.streamtheworld.com/index.php?CALLSIGN=KLSXFM to listen to Tom's flagship station 97.1 KLSX in Los Angeles. For how long that station will be streaming beyond July 15 when the retroactive CRB rates take effect, I don't know.

http://www.blowmeuptom.com/ to visit Tom Leykis's website and listen to the stream when he's on weekdays from 3-8pm.

Changing formats at 5pm Thursday (yesterday) was 101.5 Free-FM in Phoenix, Arizona. They're stunting with a Free Paris format. You guessed it. It's running all Paris Hilton songs. You'd think that it would be "hot" in Phoenix? http://www.1015freefm.com/ has a link to another webpage to free Paris Hilton.

Free FM 92.3 flipped to modern rock earlier this month. 106.9 Free-FM flipped formats to classic rock last month. 103.7 could return to doing Planet's old format to fill in the gap vacated by the loss of an FM oldies station two summers ago.

All Access reports that the URL for the rumored new format is registered to Judith Joseph of Cape Coral, FL, and the source code includes a copyright tag for CBS Radio.

Here's to hoping that Bob Bolinger at Clear Channel has the mind to put Tom on KGB. Yeah, right.

A fan named David (not THIS David) set up a Myspace page (like it's going to work?) at http://www.myspace.com/savetomphoenix. Excerpt: "We need to prove to CBS how many fans Tom has and maybe we can convince them to BRING HIM BACK!"

It was a fun 20 months when Tom was on in San Diego. Too bad the programmers at 103.7 Free FM couldn't prop up the ratings with better quality talkers before and after the show.

The intelligence level of Free-FM dropped when Adam Carolla was force-fed Danny Bonaduce, whose rancid delivery drove away many listeners. The retirement of Penn Jillette's show in March only made the IQ level drop. Not even Dennis Miller could get the ratings up.

One upside to the format change: no more Bonaduce in San Diego!

The weekend programming at Free was forgettable at best. Nothing like something original like truly funny music on the weekends.
