The 33rd People's Choice Winners (Jan 11, 2007)

The voters at the People Choice Awards have very long memories in regards to voting in the movie categories, unlike those who vote in the Academy® Awards, and Golden Globes®, where movies from just the last two months and even movies that haven't been released yet are often named winners, making a mockery out of the Globes.

The summertime movie season, which is a time to watch movies in theaters, produced a bountiful crop of winners in the People's Choice Awards. The movie swashbuckler "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" and its stars Johnny Depp and Keira Knightley led winners during Tuesday night's 33rd annual People's Choice Awards.

Female star: Jennifer Aniston
Male star: Johnny Depp
Leading lady: Cameron Diaz
Leading man: Vince Vaughn
Female action star: Halle Berry
Male action star: Johnny Depp
On-screen matchup: Johnny Depp & Keira Knightley
Movie: "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest"
Movie drama: "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest"
Movie comedy: "Click"
Family movie: "Cars"

For television, the pickings were slimmer than ever as, in this case, the Emmy® Awards winners are often better than most of the Peoples Choice winners, meaning that the people don't often explore cable or pay-TV for better entertainment.

Comedy: "Two and a Half Men". I thought "South Park" was the best from last year.
Animated comedy: "The Simpsons". The quality was lagging last year. "Family Guy" should have won.
Drama: "Grey's Anatomy". BORING! None were good, but the departing "Charmed" was the best free TV could do.
Competition/Reality show: "American Idol". ZZzzzzzz. "Deal or No Deal" deserved to win.
New Comedy: "The Class". Never watched it.
New Drama: "Heroes". Ditto.
Female star: Eva Longoria. Agreed.
Male star: Patrick Dempsey. Star can be loosely defined, so I would have voted for Larry the Cable Guy from "Blue Collar TV".
Talk show host: Ellen DeGeneres.

As for music winners, I found it lacking. Not even the Grammy® Awards can get it right. The AMA® Awards sucks. Rather than announcing the People's Choice winners in the music awards, here's what I would have voted for in the music category.

Female singer: Carrie Dahlby
Male singer: "Weird Al" Yankovic
Group: The Bucky Burro Band
R&B song: "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley
Hip-hop song: "Reign of Error" by Sudden Death
Pop song: "Centipede" by David Tanny
Country song: "I Ain't Goin' Nowhere" by Rick Moranis.
Rock song: "Download This Song" by MC Lars
Song from a movie: I don't watch movies.
Remake: "People are Strange" by Tiny Tim (posthumously)
