The Beat is Gone! After a string of on-air and management changes over the past six months, Radio One relaunched urban AC KKBT/Los Angeles 100.3s as "V100" at 8 a.m. Friday (Dec. 29) with new call letters KRBV. The station will no longer use its former moniker "The Beat," a name that has been synonymous with the KKBT call letters since the late '80s.

Adam Carolla on the New Changes for 2007 (Dec 30, 2006)

From Adam Carolla via myspace:

First off, thanks to all of you for your support over the last year. I really appreciate it. You all know what's going on with the show, but what you may not know is why everything happened and how i feel about it.

The show has been doing pretty well in the ratings in every market we're in except the one the suits in NY care about which is Los Angeles. They decided that Damashek was the problem. I disagreed with that and convinced them to give me until the end of the year to get the ratings up in LA. When our next ratings trend came in we got a 3.3 in LA up from a 1.2 and it looked like everyone's job was safe. But when our last ratings trend came in 2 days before the xmas break we got a .7. I know it seems impossible to go from a 3.3 to a .7 when the product hasn't changed but that's the beauty of Arbitron. The .7 is all the guys in NY needed to strip the show.

I like Dave as a friend, and i like him as a comedian although i do understand he's an aquired taste. I thought he did a great job this year and you can bet right now that Jimmy Kimmel is hard at work trying to find him a sports radio job. I'll miss doing radio with him but we'll remain friends and i'll see him every Sunday watching football over at Kimmel's.

As far as Bonaduce goes, obviously i didn't choose him because if i had my druthers Dave would be in studio come Jan. 2. But, that being said, i do think he's a talented radio personality who has a lot to offer, much more than his drunken, menacing tv persona would lead you to believe. He's done the show a number of times and has done tv shows i've been on and our chemistry has always been good. We met a few days back and he understands that it's not going to be the Danny and Adam show. It will be the Adam Carolla show with Danny Bonaduce and Teresa Strausser.

Thanks for all the support you guys have given the show and with you guys behind me, we'll have a great '07.

Thanks,

Ace

Soul of San Diego Moves Up 200kHz (Dec 29, 2006)

San Diego's gospel music radio station, currently on KURS 1040, will be getting a new station. KSON-AM?

The former country station outlet that used to rule San Diego in the 60s and 70s and was once the home of Radio Disney and Kidstar will be the new home of Larry "Preacherman" Thompson's gospel music format that was once a Sunday morning show on KCBQ-AM and KPRZ-AM three years ago. It will be part-time on AM 1240 beginning on January 1, then will go 24 hours a day begnning on January 15.

No word whether it will be a simulcast of KURS, or if KURS will be changing formats.

Feeling Sad? Let's Brighten Up Your Day With This Website (Dec 27, 2006)

http://www.fagauto.com/.

Please bear in mind that as you read it, the letters forming the word FAG is a registered trademark. I'm not kidding. I was visiting an automotive parts store to conduct business, and I saw this table sticker bearing the logo "FAG". I was laughing myself crazy over this. I didn't know that anything with this kind of name was in business. I googled and found the website above. This is the website for FAG Automotive, a company of the FAG Kugelfscher Group. Inside you'll find pages about the FAG Group Structure, the FAG History where you can read the history of the FAG-group. FAG is the pioneer in the rolling bearing industry. The "FAG" trademark originating from the Fischer Aktien-Gesellschaft, was first registered in 1905 and is now listed in the corporate registries of over a hundred countries. It was added to the company's name in 1979. In 1985, FAG goes public. As of 1 January 1994, a customer-orientated Group structure was introduced for the FAG Group, tailored to the different markets and the varying requirements of rolling bearing customers. In 1998, the FAG Sales Europe is founded. In 1999, FAG gains market leadership in Korea. In 1999, the FAG Academy of International Coaching and Training was founded. In November, the FAG Group for the first time contracted a loan. At FAG Automotive the satisfaction of our customers is our top priority, and the driving force of our success. Everyone at FAG Automotive is accountable for Quality. There's also the Environmental Policy of the FAG Group. And more stuff. Surf the website and see what you'll find. No word whether the GLAAD group has ever protested the name.

If commercial radio across the country all sounds the same to you today, there is a reason: It is. "Virtually everyone in radio," Marc Fisher says, "believes the medium has become less fun, less creative and just plain less worth listening to than at any point since its birth" (read more - Roger K. Happy Hare: Jimmy Hoffa simply disappeared.. No one knows what happened to him. It was as if that current amazing magician, Mind Freak, had walked into the Machus Red Fox Restaurant on the outskirts of Detroit and uttered a few soft spoken word and the next thing you knew, Hoffa was gone. That was in July of 1975. I saw him several times in the 60’s at the Fox, both his and our favorite eatery. “Our” being myself and Carol, my longtime love and new wife. The first time I saw him was shortly after Specs Howard and I had arrived in Detroit to launch the Martin and Howard Show on WXYZ. There has never been a more dramatic entrance than the one he made at the Fox, the first day I saw him (read more - www.HappyHareOnline.com).

Art Astor: alls it an obvious and logical decision. Nobody else is doing it, the president and CEO of the Astor Broadcasting Group says, so KSPA will. In a way, it already has. Its new contemporary adult standards format has been eased into place most of this month on Astor's KSPA-AM (1510) with an official unveiling scheduled Tuesday - the moment the last Christmas holiday tune vanishes (read more - Bob Sokolsky-San Bernadino Sun).

Radio Paradise:, the Internet radio station run by Bill and Rebecca Goldsmith from their home in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, could seem like a dinosaur — a throwback to FM radio's golden days of the 1970s, when the playlists were controlled by a select few disc jockeys, not corporate flunkies, and the audience had no choice but to trust the DJ. Yet the idea behind the station couldn't be more current (read more - Patrick Day-LA Times)

Happy December 25th (Dec 25, 2006)

To all the Catholics, you know it's obvious, so there's no need to beat it into the ground.

But to the majority of my friends who are Atheists, Wiccans, Hebrews, Islams, winter hibernators, and who otherwise see this day as the quietest observance of the year, have a decent December 25th.

I'll be in the El Zona realm with Scotty working at a jobsite filling in for some worker who quit because Christmas Day isn't recognized as a legal holiday in El Zona. Reason? Since the government there doesn't sanction or restrict religion, the government in the El Zona realm cannot grant holiday status to Christmas Day there, so therefore, Christmas is not a holiday, but just a normal workday like Hanukkah, Ramadan, Kwanzai, and other religious observances, except when they fall on a legal holiday by coincidence like Gregorian Date Easter falls on Equimas Day, which has taken the place of Christmas as the biggest holiday of the year. Equimas, falling on March 21st of each year on the Gregorian calendar, is the day of gift giving, family gatherings, parties, celebrations, and other holiday cheer.

So to the readers in the El Zona realm who are reading this in the San Diego realm, remember that you can't ditch work on Christmas or you'll get a present alright: a pink slip. You can practice religion there, but can't use that as an excuse for a day off.

We Need New TV Shows I Can Watch (Dec 25, 2006)

The past TV season has been lackluster at best. So many shows failed to hold my interest. "Identity" didn't hold my interest after the first day. "Ugly Betty" stunk after five seconds! None of Fox's dramas have any warmth to their stories. "The Office" turned me off. "Show Me The Money" moved far too slowly and was too hard to learn, and host William Shatner trying to dance like Al Gore really turned people off the show. Tried all of the CBS comedies and none of them stuck. "The Office" is OK, but something's missing.

"Blue Collar TV" was the last great comedy on TV and needs a new network and new shows.

Finding good scripted shows to watch is as hard as finding a fast food place that specializes in vegetarianism meals.

The few that I do watch is South Park, Family Guy, The Simpsons, American Dad, King of the Hill, and Veronica Mars which I seemed to have picked up by accident at last summer's ComicCon. Veronica seems to be the new hybrid Buffy-Sabrina model or something like it.

One other show I'm back on being hooked on after a ten year absence? General Hospital. I'm just nuts about the fact that there's a geek character named Spinelli on the show giving a geeky angle to some of the plots, including hacking computers for answers and giving a lady he calls Mother Goddess a marijuana joint for her cancer treatment troubles. Bradford Anderson plays Spinelli, and who was featured on two episodes of Veronica Mars the previous season. OK, Kelly Monaco and Nancy Grahn are two hot babes. I'll admit it.

Two other notes: Bradford is a surname of that famous TV family "Eight is Enough", who has yet to have their shows released on DVD. "Anderson" is a surname of the family "Father Knows Best". Wonder if he knew this?

Finally on DVD! (Dec 25, 2006)

Yup. We gotta plug it. It says so in our contract.
