Donna Summer's "Last Dance". The station says that they're playing the best disco hits of all time...maybe.

Stay tuned...if you care to hear the same song over and over and over and over again.

Arrr! Pirate 96.9 is now on Myspace (Jan 30, 2006)

Pirate 96.9, a station that has recently boosted its power so that parts of Kearny Mesa can now hear it, has landed on Myspace right here!

http://www.myspace.com/radiopirate

Sunday nights, a new local music has landed on Pirate. Johnny Defiant hosts "Local Time" from 6-8pm. He features music both new and old many of which you never heard before.

Letters: 690 and 105.7 (Jan 30, 2006)

James: the format of nostalgia has run its course. As good as the music is, very few of the younger folks understand the meaning of music 50 years removed from the original times that they were once hits on the charts, yet I hear that some of them prefer music heard on this station, as well as KGB, KOOL (now dead), and Jack over the rap stuff aimed at their generation. My son who listens to the classics says that this rap music is not even music and he can't understand why some of his friends like this kind of stuff that's popular today. Broadcast radio has got to stop forging a rap culture that's full of grammar errors and questionable themes and get back to discovering music that everybody can enjoy together like the songs I hear on KYXY and a few others I can tune in. The loss of 690 to a Spanish programmer means that our children will have one less radio station of sane music that they can listen to. Radio Disney is gone. Oldies is gone. Jack needs to stop playing crap like that stupid "my hump" song or whatever station is playing it. Today's songs that make it to radio past the music directors are basically crap and me and my kids can't relate to it.

Garrett: Now 105.7 is playing "Sex" by Berlin, the first song 91X is playing. The radio teaser says that it plays "The Best alternative hits of all time...maybe." How about dance as a format? We don't need another rock station in San Diego. Is there anybody that is not AARP eligible that listens to KGB anymore? We don't need another alternative rock station either. 91X and 94.9 needs to get better selections of new music and dump the depressing hard rock tunes. What is it about San Diego that keeps on flipping to a new rock music format or a new old music format every time I read about a new format coming? The FM talk station basically blows. They should have flipped to a Top 40 hit station and go after Channel 933. Leykis is a dirty old man and I don't know why even D.T. the editor listens to his ranting on dating and scoring with young chicks. I like older women, but he is right on the money when he says that marriage is a bad deal and women need to stay sexy and cute instead of turning into John Madden with sagging guts. Radio needs to get it together and come up with formats that are appealling to my age group and get out of the gutter when it comes to talk and teenage music.

Russ: 105.7 should try something different like bringing back the music format of KKOS featuring adult rock, blues, adult alternative, and classic rock that is not too hard on my ears like I hear on the other five. I would like to hear Chuck Berry, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Elvis Costello, Rolling Stones, INXS, Joe Satriani, and others. That's what I consider the greatest rock and roll of all time. No MTV hair bands, grunge, or weird techno rock. Play stuff since 1955 that rocks and fun to listen to and put Jack FM to shame. That's what would work here.

Oliver: 690 going Spanish talk could either be a big hit or a dud. What can you do with a 77,000 watt radio station out of Rosarita that would appeal to enough listeners in Los Angeles to make it a hit? If Spanish talk doesn't work, why not bring back the oldies from the 60s and 70s and play whatever sounds as good as the music from those two decades from the 80s and 90s. So much for The Panther on 105.7. There may already be too many Spanish radio stations here.

Ron: UPN and WB folding for a CW network? What a stupid name. CW sounds like a CB song singer from the 70s. Crap World is what the network stands for. Nothing but crap from the two networks nobody cares to watch. This network will fold in half the time the two netlings existed.

Dan: 105.7 should flip to oldies and classic rock from the 50s through the 70s. Plain and simple. I want my music back.
