Hacksaw To Return on San Diego Airwaves (Dec 24, 2005)

XTRA Mainstay Lee "Hacksaw" Hamilton is returning to San Diego radio.

Come Monday January 2, 2006, Hacksaw will be heard on KOGO 600 AM weekday mornings at 6:35am with a feature titled "One Man's Opinion." He will also be doing another feature, "Hacksaw's Not Headlines" weekdays at 8:15am during the First News block, 12:32pm after the first half hour of Mark Larson's show, and three times at 3:32pm, 4:32pm, and 5:32pm during the Roger Hedgecock show.

Hamilton will also be hosting a two-hour sports call-in talk show Sunday afternoons from 4-6 p.m. before Steve Yuhas' live one-hour show.

"Lee is a perfect fit for KOGO," said program director Cliff Albert. "Hacksaw is well known in San Diego and the No. 1 guy when it comes to sports news."

Hamilton will continue to be heard on "XTRA Sports" KLAC 570 in Los Angeles. KLAC and KOGO are Clear Channel owned and operated radio stations in Los Angeles and San Diego respectively.

More than 4.4 million video streams were served up to Howard Stern fans who watched the Yahoo! broadcast of Stern's last day on terrestrial radio on December 16. Yahoo! also claims another 214,000 users simultaneously viewed its broadcast of the festivities honoring the self-proclaimed King Of All Media.

Phoenix gets its own talk/rock "Free FM" January 3 - as CBS blows up mod rocker "Zone" KZON (101.5). CBS had already announced Adam Carolla as the replacement for Howard Stern - now he'll be joined by "Frosty, Heidi & Frank", Westwood's Tom Leykis and (starting January 20) Premiere's Phil Hendrie. Like other "Free FM" conversions - KZON will still feature alternative rock (including 80s alt-gold) at night and on weekends.

Sirius is selling out of radio receivers in some markets. Banc of America Securities analyst Jonathan Jacoby says "Stern surge sells out some Sirius products" - though he still prefers XM to Sirius, short-term. He says "Sirius valuation is overextended, likely due to the Howard Stern hype."
