Boycott Disneyland (Nov 11, 2005)Reason...altogether now...IT'S NOT CHRISTMAS SEASON YET!Why are advertisers plugging the wrong holiday season during Thanksgiving season? Disney is a stupid company anyway. ABC sucks with mostly awful fare. ESPN sucks $3 a month; they should be on a pay tier. Disney Channel sucks with reruns of old ABC Saturday morning shows. ABC Family Channel sucks with reruns of old ABC shows. ABC affilliates such as KGTV hype up sad news for Seinfeld fans when all that happened was the death of an actress who guested on the series twice. What a waste of time. Don't watch local TV news either.Wish somebody could buy Disney and shut them down for good! Today is Veterans Day (Nov 11, 2005)Today is a federal holiday, meaning that the post office and all other government offices that are normally open during business hours are closed for the day so that we the U.S. citizens can take time out to thank our living veterans who have fought in past wars to help keep this country free for the protesters to freely express their futile right to protest wars.Veterans Day evolved from an historic date in World War I. November 11th is the anniversary of the Armistice which was signed in the Forest of Compiegne by the Allies and the Germans in 1918, ending World War I, after four years of conflict. The official date of the end of World War I was June 28, 1919 when the Treaty of Versailles was signed, but the actual fighting between the Allies and Germany ended seven months earlier in November 1918 when the armistice went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, which is 11am on November 11th. In 1926, November 11th, which became known as Armistice Day, became a holiday and a national holiday in 1938. In 1954, the name was changed to Veterans Day to honor all U.S. veterans. So on this day, let's thank our Veterans in some form in any way you can so that we can continue to educate and entertain our readers with news about the latest in Dr. Demento-type comedy music that radio continues to ignore today. FM 94/9 Beef (Nov 11, 2005)It's one thing to diss music that I can't stand, but Tommy, the midday jock at FM 94/9 went too far yesterday, dissing Madonna as boring.I hope he means Madonna on the personal side, but musically, I'm a big fan of her latest song "Hung Up" dance tune that local radio continues to ignore playing, but I can hear that song on BPM XM 81, energyarizonafm.com, www.energy98stl.com, and ipartyradio.com. This from a radio station that still hangs on to playing meaningless 90s crap such as that same old stupid fish song by P.J. Harvey every other day. No wonder I find alternative rock radio wanting. Play some dance mixes and put the modern grunge stuff in moth balls. At least neither 91X or 94/9 bothers to play that nu-metal and rap-rock shit anymore like the clueless former 91X music director did back in the 1998-2003 era.
Buy a Vet a Turkey (Nov 11, 2005)Note to Jimmy: Veterans is not possessive (not Veteran's)From the Jimmy Valentine Flashfax (errors included): SHOP FOR TWO FOR THANKSGIVING…ON VETERAN’S DAY…yesterday during our daily radio Homefront San Diego Update, Albertson’s was on to announce a partnership with HFSD for Thanksgiving. The grocery chain is offering a buy one, get one free turkey program. Here’s the skinny. You shop today, Veteran’s Day at one of the 10 Albertson’s in the county that are making the deal for our military families. You shop for two (your family and a military family). You spend $25 bucks and then on top of that you buy a turkey. Albertson’s will give you a second turkey for free, which you may donate to HFSD. Don’t take the free turkey home. The grocery clerk will put it in a freezer for our distribution to military families. That simple. We have hundreds of military families that can use a little help around the holidays. Putting a feast on the table for them helps a ton. Just tell the check out clerk that you want your free turkey (how much of that stuff can you eat?) to go to HFSD. They’ll work with our volunteers to get that turkey into a Thanksgiving Feast box that we’ll distribute to our families on November 19th. One day only. Veteran’s Day. The 10 Albertson’s that are participating are these: Lemon Grove, 7090 Broadway Oceanside, 3925 Mission Avenue Oceanside, 3450 Marron Road Oceanside, 4150 Oceanside Blvd Fallbrook, 1133 Mission Road San Diego, 10740 W. View Pkwy San Diego, 10633 Tierransanta Blvd San Diego, 7715 Balboa Avenue Chula Vista, 720 3rd Avenue Rancho San Diego, 2899 Jamacha RoadIf you lose this Flash, the locations are listed at www.homefrontsandiego.org and at www.rogerhedgecock.com And don’t forget the other stuff…cranberry sauce, stuffing mix, olives, pickles, potatoes and like that. That good stuff can be dropped off at locations around the county, including Roger’s office at KOGO, 9660 Granite Ridge Drive, San Diego. Those drop off points are on the HFSD website as well.
