Karlfest (Happens Oct 1, 2005)

In a San Diego-style celebration of Oktoberfest, Karl Strauss Brewing Company is hosting Karlfest for Surfrider, a music and microbrew festival to benefit the Surfrider Foundation. The last event raised over $9,000.00 for Surfrider and hopefully Karlfest will exceed that amount!

Karlfest features some of the best local talent, great blues music, food and beer all for our oceans, waves, and beaches. Sector 9 will be back along with Wahoo's Fish Tacos and even a hot dog vendor. Check out the local artisans and their wares, take a brewery tour, or simply have one of the 10+ Karl Strauss beers and enjoy the music.

Your $5 ticket includes 5 beer tastings, entertainment, and brewery tour (time permiting). Tickets will sell out

Shuttles will be running from both PB Library and in OB at Dusty Rhodes Park throughout the afternoon.

Join FM 94/9 at Karlfest from 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm!

Location: Karl Strauss Rose Canyon Brewery - 5985 Santa Fe St

Padres Win Fourth Division Title (Sep 30, 2005)

On Wednesday night in a blowout, the San Diego Padres crushed the San Francisco Giants by the score of 9-1 to win their fourth division title in their 37 year history of the franchise. The Mighty 1090, which has been broadcasting the Padre games for two years, has seen their ratings rise as the nail-biting baseball season winds down. The day before, the Los Angeles Angels of Phoenix Arizona or whatever they're called this week won their second division title in a row. The Angels games are broadcasted by ESPN 800.

There's no word yet on what the radio schedule games for the division playoffs look like, but it's likely that you will hear the post-season Padre games on Mighty 1090 and the Angels, as well as all of the other divisional playoff games, will be on ESPN 800, a signal so weak at night that you can get a Mexican station from near Texas at night bleeding into the signal.

ESPN 800 should think about simulcasting their games on another station, preferably on a North County station. KCEO 1000 isn't doing anything worthwhile at night for the most part. Simulcast the games there, but in the coastal area, you could get the games on ESPN 710 from Los Angeles.

mlb.com will have the schedule as soon as the races are finished.
