Jagger and Kristi Returns Thursday (Aug 16, 2005)

They were on yesterday afternoon at their new home on Magic 92.5 taking about their return to the morning airwaves this week.

Starting this Thursday morning, "Magic Mornings with Jagger and Kristi" premieres on Magic 92.5! The show will air from 5:30am until 10am weekdays.

"We have been waiting for the right opportunity to have fun again on the radio...and we found it," says Jagger and Kristi from their website jaggerandkristi.com. "Starting Thursday morning at 5:30 we will be back waking up all our freinds in San Diego on Magic 92.5. We wanted to just say thanks for all your support and e-mails while we were off the air...it was great to hear from all of you. We hope you will join us and our new radio family at Magic 92.5. Give us a call at 570-1925...its gonna be a blast!"

Former Magic morning guy Sonny "Boom Boom" Loco goes bust and exits.

http://www.magic925.com/ is already plugging the husband and wife team on their website. They woke up the listeners in the mornings on My 94.1 from 2002-2005, and before that, drove people home during the afternoons on the now-defunct Star 100.7 in 1996.

Next month, Jeff and Jer slide on over to J&G's former home on My 94.1 after they end their contract August 31 on Jack. Last year, Howard Stern shifted from Rock 105.3, whose parent company Clear Channel cancelled the show while it was still on contract, and Infinity's Planet 103.7 picked it back last July 2004. Tony and Kris exited KSON 97.3 at the end of 2003 and moved to US 95.7 the following first month of 2004. And it's not over yet. Dave Mason, morning host of KOOL (XHOCL) 99.3 is bailing out of the oldies station to work at KOGO 600 hosting San Diego's First News sometime this year while Clear Channel finds a company to deal its LMA to the Mexican-owned 99.3. That's five morning show hosts/teams that have changed San Diego radio homes in less than two years, six if you count Delana (formerly of the Magic 92.5 team Greg, Delana, and Chris) moving last year to become Roxy (with the Misfitz) on Z90. No word whether the current Z90 or 91X morning show hosts/teams will be retained once the transfer of the LMAs from Clear Channel to Finest City Broadcasting is complete.

Clear Channel Joins the Bitcasting Competetion (Aug 16, 2005)

We're seeing Clear Channel finally embracing streaming of their stations as they are ranked #3 in the June ComScore Arbitron Online Radio Ratings, behind AOL Radio and Yahoo Music, which came in #2 and #1 respectively. Microsoft's radio and WMP network lineup collectively ranked #4, but the once mighty Live365.com brings up the rear at #5 among the Top 5, losing a lot of ground to the competetors who are coming up with better offerings.

If Live365.com wishes to remain competetive, they need to change the way they do business and get more aggressive in helping their paying broadcasters (including myself who broadcasts a station called dfsxradio.com through their servers) by servicing them relevant new and classic recordings (not just by sideload, but by downloads), license syndicated programming to run on their servers for their paying broadcasters to use, adding more space, say enough to store 10,000 songs in MP3 ripped at 128kbps-44MHz, and letting broadcasters stream with at least three bitrates with a single MP3 file (such as dialup, intermediate, and broadband rates) with a single account.

The Wires (Aug 16, 2005)

Third-party stories are copyrighted by their respective owners. SDN has no affillition with these stories.

Kurt Hanson: Chicago Radio Legends Winston, Biondi, among first HD Only DJs. On Friday, Infinity's Digital Radio WJMK-HD2/Chicago became the first HD station to broadcast with a live airstaff. Interestingly, since the signal is also online, this makes the station terrestrial radio's first Internet station with a full time staff as well. Legendary WJMK air talent like Dick Biondi and Fred Winston are back on the air -- for those with HD radios -- and online. In June, Infinity WJMK, along with WCBS-FM in New York, abandoned Oldies to become a JACK FM station. Read more in today's issue of "RAIN: Radio And Internet Newsletter," available online now.

FMQB: FCC Indecency Complaints Decline. The FCC reports indecency complaints during the first quarter of 2005 dramatically decreased, but the future home of Howard Stern is the new target as the number of complaints against subscription satellite and cable services were up.

FMQB: RIAA Takes On CD Burning, Mom Takes On RIAA. RIAA releases report saying CD-Rs are a bigger threat than illegal downloading. Meanwhile, the RIAA is being taken to court over one of its file-sharing lawsuits for the first time.

Tony and Kris on Vacation (Aug 16, 2005)

Tony and Kris, morning show hosts of US 95.7, is on vacation all week and will return next week. Several guests are filling in as hosts for the week. Lee Ann Womack, Joe Nichols, Steve Wariner, Tracy Byrd, and Tony Danza (huh?) are guest hosting the morning daypart on the Carlsbad-licensed Clear Channel-owned radio station from 5:30 until 10am.

Howard Stern Stays Through December (Aug 16, 2005)

Syndicated morning show host Howard Stern told his listeners yesterday morning that he hears that he won't be pulled next month three months before his Infinity contract ends.

Rather, he will be staying on free radio (including Planet 103.7) through the end of the year.
