Perhaps some shuttle chat (Lord be with the crew)…Today is the day we learn the vector control vote outcome. Check out our homework page for items that you may want to chat up. Homework by the way is mandatory: http://www.rogerhedgecock.com/rogersnews7-12-05.html THE GREAT DEBATE….WAS….GREAT!! (two hours straight) ROGER moderated the debate live from the Windham Hotel in downtown San Diego. Tough questions, plenty of time to answer and a lively interchange between the six primary candidates for Mayor of SD City. A really fine use of the public airwaves. There was so much detail that city voters will likely want to review the debate again before casting the ballot. To that end the debate is archived on ROGER’S website at www.rogerhedgecock.com and we’ve also posted it on the Politics 2005 page on the website. Many thanks to the Windham Hotel. They did a professional job of setting up a ballroom and a green room for the candidates. When we needed to expand the room because of audience overflow the hotel staff did so quickly and quietly while we were on the air. We hadn’t visited this hotel ever. The place is beautiful. Parking is always a bit of a hassle downtown. ROGER and I decided to valet park our cars to ease getting to the broadcast site and then out after the show. The tab for about 4 hours of parking? $24 bucks a car. Yikes. ROGER and I had to pool our money to pay the bill. And we learned a lesson about commercial free debates. KOGO scraped all commercials between 4pm and 6pm to allow maximum time for debate. The only break was at the top of the 5pm hour for news. A mistake. The news slot is scheduled to run 3 minutes. That meant that our debaters had just that amount of time to stretch, visit a rest room and open a fresh bottle of water. Not enough time, particularly after a full hour of pretty intense debate. We had to pump in a couple-three minutes worth of promotional announcements to allow all the candidates to get rested if you know what we mean. AND OUR KUDOS TO KOGO…our promotions and programming crew matched the professionalism of the Windham Hotel. The broadcast room was set up to serve a large live audience and our radio audience. Flawless is a good word here. THE CANDIDATES….a remarkably short campaign prompted by Dick Murphy’s resignation has yielded an exceptional cadre of candidates. One may differ with views of one or another but to a person the group is solid, savvy and well versed and articulate. Been a while since we’ve had this caliber of candidates. And the ponder is prompted, wouldn’t it be great if all campaigns were this short? Weeks instead of months!! We did notice that the dreaded B word appears to be less dreaded by many of the candidates. Well, they call it re-organization, so they don’t have to actually talk dirty with the B word. More and more of this group have come to understand the reality of union thuggery. Union bosses will loosen their grip on power only at the point of a court mandate. ANYWHO…it’s about two weeks from election day. Please remember to VOTE YES ON PROP A…SAVE OUR CROSS!! No confusion this time. Yes means keep our Cross on Mt. Soledad. Period, simple, done!! MUTTERINGS **LONDON BOMBING….GB is a time bomb. Wonder the fuse hadn’t burnt down sooner. The Brits harbor Islamic hate cases, allow Mosque preachers to teach murder, refuse to extradite terror nuts from other countries, won’t arrest terror suspects in own country and preach tolerance to a fair thee well. Boom!! And the real scary part is that this group of killers may be home grown. Native Brits. Good religious boys….hummmmm!! **SAN DIEGO BUSINESS JOURNAL in this week issue notes that developers are already licking lips over the possibility of BRAC adding the Broadway Navy HQ and MCRD to the close it down list. Broadway is a missing piece for downtown development and MCRD would allow expansion of Lindbergh Field. Not sure there will be a lot of hassle about Broadway, that makes too much sense, but the MCRD matter is another matter. Residents near the airport likely to get stinky about closure and expansion of Lindbergh. Marines ain’t happy either. The shutdown in San Diego would leave Parris Island as the only recruit training place. But then the Navy put all it’s recruit stuff up at the Great Lakes and that hasn’t caused the sea service a lot of problems. Stay tuned!! **WE GET ANOTHER UPDATE from our bud, a former San Diego Border Patrol Agent who shifted to the northern USA border and then joined the Vermont Guard and was instantly called to duty. His email handle is “onefrozenmigra.” Anywho he gets some training at a place called Camp Shelby and then boards an aircraft for Afghanistan. You may have heard ROGER relate recently that our bud was allowed to get on a chartered commercial aircraft for the Afghan flight with his guns…M4’s, M-16’s and nine millimeter Beretta sidearms. But he was not allowed to bring on board his nail clippers or tweezers. Hey, rules is rules, right? (he also notes that the brass flew in first class…grunts in coach) Newest message is from an undisclosed location in the Afghan place. He refers to the place as “Indian Country.” His first reaction is that the Army is being real stingy with ammo. He gets a bare minimum amount of 9mm ammo and none of the 5.56 stuff that he’d prefer. He notes that he carries more ammo on him as a Border Patrol Agent than as a War Fighter on the ground in Afghanistan. Our bud also picks up right away that he’s bunked with some real stupid folks. He sez that they had a chance to snag a #1 Taliban guy in the area and refused to do so. Terror guy was 30 minutes away, an easy grab. Bud sez Army wants folks to believe the area is Taliban free. Busting the guy would have put lie to that assertion. (sounds like the Border Patrol bosses). “Onefrozen,” does ask us to send a shout out to the Chula Vista Border Patrol Station for him. “Tell them old Victor 210 says hello and for them to keep up the good work.” Pass the word along okay? **VENTURED NORTH to Ithaca, New York over the past weekend. A reunion trip. Ithaca is a college town. Both Ithaca College and Cornell are located there. Lots of “peace” and “love,” bumper stickers…and “bring our troops home,” and gag!! The 60’s never left this part of America. Folks walk about in clothing made out of hemp. Everybody is drab and wrinkled looking. You can’t smoke at some outdoor patio restaurant tables. But this part of NY is beautiful this time of year. Trees and forests and majestic pastures. Anytime anybody sez we’re destroying the planet take a run thru here. The Lord’s bounty as far as the eye can see, well tended by folks from our species. **THE REUNION was disappointing. The state has become involved in the George Junior Republic. No more student (citizen) government. No more funny money and kids having to pay rent and for meals and having to work to earn. Now they have social workers. The cottages have all gone to pot. The place is a mess. John Galt has departed the premises. **HOMEFRONT SAN DIEGO….We need you to visit with us come this Saturday July 16th, at Budget Car Sales in El Cajon at 400 North Broadway.
