Planet 103.7 Specialty Programming (June 3, 2005)A new page has been added to the planetfm.com website covering a lineup of the station's specialty programs and features. Read it in color at http://www.planetfm.com/programs.htmlWeekdays at noon, Cindy Pace has "Ten From Then", where she digs deep into The Planet music library to play 10 of the best songs from a particular year (sounds like an idea stolen from dfsxradio.com's Time Machine weekly program). Expect surprises and a lot of fond memories. Weekdays at 3:10, Jim McInnes hosts "The Urban Legends of Rock" where he investigates and features the artists in question. Weekdays at 4:30, "The Planet Music Hour" is a non-stop hour of classic rock music. No commercials, no traffic reports and no interruptions. Simple as that! Check it out on your way home! Weekdays at 6, it's "6 O'Clock Road Block" where Jim features a block of music from the Classic Rock band that's making headlines that day. Best of all, JM's Road Block is free of interruptions. Weeknights at 8pm, Dawson has a weekly feature with "Dawson's 8 O'Clock Music Feature".
Monday 8pm: Monday Mullet Madness featuring Big Hair 80s classics!
Weeknights at 10pm, Dawson has another feature called "Dawson's Drive-Thru", where he spends the next two hours "workin' the window." Call Dawson with your request at 1-888-388-1037. Sunday mornings at 6, John Q. Lawrence hosts a public affairs program "Concerning San Diego". Classic Rock 103.7 The Planet gets you up to speed on local issues and events that touch the lives of San Diegans. Sometimes it's serious and sometimes it's funny. But it's always interesting. Sunday mornings at 7, Uncle Joe Benson (now of KLOS) hosts the syndicated "Off The Record" where he gives a comprehensive look at one of your Classic Rock bands. Not just their legendary songs, but the stories behind the music and lyrics. Sunday nights at 6pm, Jim works the weekends with his two-year-old local show "The Vinyl Resting Place", two hours of lost classics, deep cuts and vintage vinyl from Jim McInnes' personal record collection. JM plays forgotten favorites and shares inside dirt on those Classic songs, the band and the artists they later influenced! Sunday nights at 8pm, a new radio show, "The Deep End", is where Nick Michaels takes you a two-hour trip to a time when music mattered. The music of that era (1965-1976) changed things. It stopped a war. It empowered people. It still does. "The Deep End" is like a time machine. Strap in and enjoy the ride! Sundays at 10pm is "Rockline" with legendary rock jock Bob Coburn who interviews the biggest stars of Classic Rock. You'll hear cuts from their newest CD and find out if their tour is coming to San Diego. It's 90 minutes of interactive radio. You, Bob and the coolest bands on The Planet. But it's a whole different story in the broadcasting industry, which is carefully watching as more than a dozen ---- and counting ---- "Jack" stations spread across the United States and Canada. While the commercial radio business isn't on its deathbed, it's definitely ailing, and some experts say the prognosis isn't great. Insiders wonder if the Jack clones in cities like Los Angeles, Seattle, Baltimore and Buffalo could change things by preventing listeners from defecting to alternatives like satellite radio, Internet broadcasts and iPods (read more - Randy Dotinga-North County Times)
The Wires - Nationwide (June 3, 2005)Radio companies already are trying to turn some of their traditional programming into podcasts to capture new ad revenue. FM receivers had become common in homes and cars. The coming of age for FM greatly increased the choices available to listeners. Back in 1965, AM was the king of music radio with FM relegated to automated “beautiful music”, classical, or other fringe formats for the “older” demographic.
