THE ROGER HEDGECOCK SHOW
KOGO/AM 600 - 3P - 6P (Pacific)
SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA
THE RADIO MAYOR OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
TUESDAY MAY 31ST , 2005

TODAY ON THE RADIO: ROGER faces a short but very busy week. More than too
much about to happen at SD City Hall today. Wednesday we get the vote line
up for the July 26th SD Mayor ballot. Today we’ll reprise some of the
Memorial Day happenings. ROGER was MC at the WWII event on Saturday down
at waters edge. You have some topics you want to talk about so we’ll be
trying to fit five days worth of data into a four day sack. Homework is
required on this broadcast…this is not talk radio for dummies:

MEMORIAL DAY 2005
(some thoughts)

WE DIDN’T GET OFF THE PROPERTY much this past weekend. Missus had a long,
long “honey do,” list that involved truckloads of ground cover for the
back yard, heavy lifting and wheel barrow pushing. We got to Home Depot
more times than I liked and the place was packed all weekend long.

My thoughts were on the meaning of the weekend tho. My property is mine
because men and women died on foreign property. Every freedom I enjoy I
owe to those who served and serve today. My flags flew (I fly the Texas
flag just below our beloved American flag). And I said quiet prayerful
thanks.

I did want to go down to the Embarcadero Marina area on Saturday where
ROGER Mced a major department of defense tribute to WWII Vets. Didn’t make
it. Didn’t want to leave the property. You get that way after the Fire
Debacle of 2003.

I was anxious most of the weekend to find out how things went up in
Savannah, Missouri. You recall this is the hometown of Shawn Schweitzer a
U.S. Marine out of Camp Pendleton, wounded badly in Iraq and then
discharged because of his disabilities. Homefront San Diego stepped in to
help the family that was suddenly without base housing, base schooling and
the rest of the perks of active duty. He needed a wheelchair which we got
and we gave the family some of your money to pay for gas, hotels and meals
on the long trek to Missouri.

We called ahead to Savannah and alerted the FOP, churches, media, local
government, the American Legion and the 139th Airlift Command that Shawn,
his wife and two small children were coming and asked them to put out a
red carpet and set up a community support system.

I’ve been communicating with an Air Force Colonel Norman Brosi who is
President of the Savannah American Legion and also the CO over at the
139th. On Friday he told me he had made contact with Shawn enroute to
Missouri and that he’d set up plans for Shawn to be honored on Memorial
Day at the legion post ceremony. It wasn’t until this Morning that I
learned how the homecoming went. Here’s the email I got from Colonel
Brosi this morning:

Jimmy, Shawn and his family arrived safely in Savannah although their
household goods are in temp storage at Fort Leavenworth. Shawn did ride in
our jeep along with Stephanie and their 2 children. We recognized him
during our Memorial Day Ceremony at the Savannah Cemetery. Stephanie said
that firing of the rifles bothered Shawn but it was not noticeable to us.
Many of his family were present to include his grandfather, parents and
others. He had a great welcome home celebration. Our Post has a steak
dinner the 1st Wed of the month so he and his family are invited to attend
(01 June). More later............
Norm
The Colonel’s email made my Memorial Day. Homefront San Diego did not want
Shawn to arrive unannounced in Savannah, to a darkened house and an
uncertain future for him and his family. You’ll note that the Colonel
promised “more later,” in his note. We’re quite sure that Savannah can
take care of it’s own but HFSD stands ready to be helpful in the future as
the need arises. This is what your support of HFSD does. While I take some
measure of satisfaction none of this happens without ROGER and your
continuing commitment to our Warriors and their families. I had a great
Memorial Day weekend. Hope you did as well.

MUTTERINGS

**OUR CROSS AND THE SD CITY MAYOR’S RACE!! We can’t vote in this July 26th
election which will decide the fate of Our Cross and perhaps lead to the
election of a new Mayor in formerly finest city. But we’ll campaign for
Our Cross in most anyway we can. And we’re glad that Our Cross is on the
same ballot as Mayor. A litmus test for us and hopefully for most SD City
voters.

A weekend item in the U-B relates that “political analists” say that
CHRISTIAN VOTERS won’t have that much impact on the Mayor’s race. Like
when did Our Cross become a purely CHRISTIAN issue? Never. But opponents
want y’all to think that the only folks who want to keep the Mt. Soledad
Veterans Memorial intact are right wing wackjob CHRISTIAN fanatics. And
watch for the Donna Frye types to cast us in this costume.

We figure that the fate of Our Cross will cross party and religious lines.
We figure turnout will be greater because Our Cross is on the ballot. Most
folks don’t care squat about who is Mayor because they figure all the
candidates are crooks, but they care about a landmark and a Memorial that
has been a single honest and frank and honorable attribute in a city gone
dead into the crapper.

Then again we ain’t with no university nor political think tank nor
constantly re-appearing political consulting firm.

**MORE WRITE IN BUBBLES IN SD MAYOR RACE? A court hearing this morning
will ponder the question of whether we’ll get another Donna Frye write in
type candidate if one of the 15 current candidates for Mayor do not garner
50% of the vote on July 26th. Plaintiffs in a suit filed before the Murph
resigned, Ron Roberts opted out and the current ballot date was set are
still active noting that city council has not addressed the Donna Frye
write in matter from the past November election. So come run off time (and
there is good likelihood that there will be a run off sometime after July
26th) we could have another maverick jump in and ask folks to fill in the
bubble. ROGER will likely have details of this court hearing later in the
day.

We was hoping that the judge would rule that Roberts and Murphy had to
square off again for Mayor. Or maybe that she’d rule that we had to have
three Mayors at the same time. But the judge don’t have a sense of humor.

**WE’RE OUTTA HERE!! You catch the item in the Union Buffoon this morning
telling about how SD city workers are bailing like GI’s over Normandy?
Fire and cops are blowing out at 50 and other city workers are hightailing
it at 55 years of age. Grabbing the bag of DROP loot, the med benefits and
the mega pensions. It’s a stampede to begin spending the lifetime treasure
that y’all have provided your gummint workers in San Diego City. There are
corporate CEOs that don’t get these kinda perks. (and folks get to leave
their DROP loot in your bank so as you can pay them 8% a year on the money
like forever. How great is that!!) You are wonderful folks to work for
over east of the I-15. (dumb as rocks but wonderful). Here be the item:

OUT!!

**BUT there is some worry on the horizon. Big Mike Aguirre still maintains
that the pro-quid-whatever deals made by city worker unions and city
council & management dumbbells (read: crooks) are illegal. He holds a news
conference this morning and then council will meet today to discuss
whether they should rescind the “illegal deals,” or face prison time. (we
made that last part up). More reasons to listen up today as ROGER insiders
this days events.

**VOTE YES ON VECTOR FEE!! A lot of hullabaloo on ROGER’S radio show in
recent days over property owners getting to vote on whether to hike their
own vector fee allotments to their annual property taxes. Some listeners
who have been exposed to way too much Art Bell (before he retired) have
donned their tin hats and complained that it’s outrageous that they be
asked to vote, that the gummint may learn how they voted and thus house
troops in their homes and all like that.

The fee is like nine bucks for most property owners and the money will
enhance the county’s ability to fight West Nile Fever and Hantavirus, both
of which have now shown up in California. We kinda figure this is a no
brainer. Nine bucks to fight disease. Count us in. But the gummint
conspiracy folks figure that something is up. Same folks who pay wonderful
pension bags to gummint employees won’t cough up 9-bucks to keep their
family safe? ‘Splain that to me, please. Vote yes on Vector Control.

**HOMEFRONT SAN DIEGO…ROGER and your continuing commitment to our military
families as we pursue the war against Islamic nutball killers. HFSD
operates without over head, which means any dime you give us goes to a
military family in need. Our cadre of 10 volunteers work without pay and
they work tirelessly. Our 24/7 hotline is active constantly with calls
from families that need help and calls from folks like y’all who want to
help. 866-424-9467.

And since our volunteers don’t get squat we figured it’s time for us to do
a tribute to them. In mid June we’ll gather and feed them and their
families some roast pig, cooked beef and chicken and sides of summertime
fixings. And we’ll honor them with gift baskets filled with certificates
to departments stores (most of the vols are womens) and we’ll have a lot
of plaque stuff for them and do a stand down for a few hours to pay homage
to really great folks who have allowed us to help many thousands of
military families since 911-01.

The party is getting near out of hand..we hope. We may have to buy a
bigger pig.

If you’d like to send me a gift certificate (I have to gift basket 10
volunteers) please do. Jimmy Valentine, The Roger Hedgecock Show, KOGO
Radio, 9660 Granite Ridge Drive, San Diego, Ca 92123. (think womens and
what womens like, okay?).

GOD BLESS AMERICA
