Bye Star, now Hi Jack My 100.7! (April 6, 2005)

We can’t talk much about it, because it’s kind of hard to describe….you just have to hear it to believe it. 100.7 JACK FM."

Jeff and Jer will remain in mornings when they return from vacation on April 18. KFMB VP/Station Manager/PD Tracy Johnson had this to say about the change, "Launching Jack FM is a natural evolution for the station following the incredible success of Star 100.7. We are thrilled to launch the next great radio station in San Diego. Listeners hve been telling us for years they want a greater variety in their radio stations with less repitition. That's what Jack FM is all about. Changing formats on one of San Diego's leading stations goes against traditional wisdom, but we're confident listeners will embrace the station as they never have before."

After teasing listeners for several weeks about a "new era" set to begin that day, KFMB-FM has become the latest American station to adopt the "playing anything" Adult Hits format by becoming "100.7 Jack-FM."

The only staffer confirmed as out is Jen Sewell, afternoon co-host and 10-year veteran. Reach JEN at (858) 442-1089 or soupa12002@yahoo.com. However, afternoon co-host Greg Simms is expected to remain with KFMB-FM in a yet-to-be-determined capacity. Middayer "Big Hair" ANITA RUSH resigned two weeks ago to focus on her family.

Prior to flipping to Jack, KFMB (Star)/San Diego morning team Jeff and Jer brought in VP/GM and station PD Tracy Johnson for a chat. "In the last 11 years, we've done some amazing things at Star," he said. "Since we went on the air in June 1994, we've created a radio station that the entire radio industry has admired. But what's coming up at 10am is bigger than all of that."

A few minutes before 10am, Jeff and Jer were replaced by ominous ticking sound effects and a mysterious voice saying "closer...closer." At 10am, an alarm went off and a female voice said, "Bye Star." Next, Jack kicked off with a produced promo that explained, "You're used to radio stations that play one type of song — some might even play two or three types of songs. Well, this is a new type of radio station. It's kind of hard to describe, you just have to listen to it. Welcome to Jack FM."

An ad for Jack 100.7 was seen during American Idol on Fox Wednesday night.
