FLASHFAX FLASH

SAVE OUR CROSS CAMPAIGN BEGINS!!

SAN DIEGO BUSINESSMAN MICHAEL SHELBY today filed the required legal papers with the San Diego City Clerks Office to potentially force the city council to reverse it’s decision not to transfer The Mount Soledad Memorial and Cross to the federal government or, failing such a vote, to put the question to a public vote of the people of San Diego.

The filing provides 30 days for citizens who support the Cross to gather at least 33-thousand petition signatures. If that happens the city council may meet and reverse its previous vote or must allow the question of transfer to be voted on by the residents of the city of San Diego.

The filing also stays any action by the city to remove the Cross from Mt. Soledad while petition signatures are being gathered.

Signature gathering will begin immediately.

San Diego Congressmen Duncan Hunter and Randy Duke Cunningham authored federal legislation that passed both the U.S. House and the Senate and was then signed by the President naming the Mt. Soledad Memorial and the Cross as a national memorial. The legislation allowed the city of San Diego to deed the property to the federal government.

By a 5-3 vote on March 8th, 2005 the San Diego City Council refused to deed the property of the national memorial. This action had the result of putting the Cross atop the mount in jeopardy. An atheist has been attempting to destroy the Cross on Mt. Soledad for more than a decade. A variety of courts have ruled that the Cross must be removed. Transfer to the federal government would have made such removal very difficult if not impossible.

Michael Shelby was aided in his legal filing by San Diego Attorneys John Howard and Thomas McKinney.

Western Press, 4401 Twain Avenue, Suite 20, San Diego agreed to print the petitions. Dimensional Silk Screen, Inc 3750 Dal Bergia St. , San Diego has offered to produce promotional materials to support the gathering of petition signatures. Several San Diego citizens have agreed to donate funds to support the Save The Cross petition signature gathering.

Michael Shelby is the owner of San Diego Harley Davidson, 5600 Kearny Mesa Rd, San Diego, Ca.

GOD BLESS AMERICA

SAVE OUR CROSS
