Energy Arizona Fills Missing Pop Dance Niche (January 31, 2005)
KNRJ, aka Energy Arizona FM, which broadcasts on 92.7 and 101.1 around the Phoenix area,
broadcasts their signal on the Internet from their website
http://www.energyarizonafm.com/.
You can choose from the Winamp MP3 stream of 24k MP3Pro or 128k Shoutcast,
the Windows Media Player 24, 32, 64, and 128k, and the Real Player stream
at 24 and 128k. When was the last time you've seen a radio station give you so many options
to listen to their radio station on the Internet? Dial-up users (now in the minority) choose
the slower 24 or 32 speeds, while broadband and DSL users can hit the fast lane with 128k for
near-FM quality sound. Wi-Fi and other stationary wireless Internet surfers at Starbucks
and other places can experiment depending on what modem speed they can receive from their wireless
ISP. I'd like to see that lame live365.com service give us that many options to listen to the stations
off of their website.
Dance music on San Diego radio is almost nonexistant (old school disco and early 90's house music
doesn't count), with the predictable Channel 933 relegating the pop dance block to after Midnight
on late Saturday nights. Energy Arizona FM brings you the pop dance hits none of the local stations
are currently programming here with upbeat tunes full of rhythm to get you through your workday,
which is one of the stations I often tune in at home while I work on the pages at several of my websites.
Besides the pop dance hits (some of which you can hear on XM Radio channel 81 or another channel,
on Sirius Satellite), Energy Arizona features dance mix shows such as DJ Rod Carrillo
hosting Foreplay Mon-Wed at 11pm-MID (San Diego time, add one hour for Arizona time during
non-Daylight Saving time) and Sideroom Fridays 11pm-1am, Justin Dohman Fridays from 9-11pm,
Lysa D Fridays 7-9pm, DJ Perry weekdays 11am-NOON and Fridays 11pm-1am,
Joe Bermudez Thursdays 9pm-11pm, Jimmie Page Saturdays 1am-2am,
Breakdown B Saturdays 2am-3am, Paul Oakenfold Sundays 9pm-11pm,
Armin Van Buuren Sundays 11pm-MID (listed as Mondays MID-1am, but I assume that they mean very late
Sunday leading into Monday), and guest house mix time periods for amateurs to try out for the
radio station which is always actively looking for live mixers. Get all of the information at the
radio station website named above.
