Star 100.7 (October 26, 2004)

LOGON NOW: Listen to new music from this week's featured artists and predict the hits >>

LINDSAY LOHAN
Rumors

After recording several songs for the soundtrack to her "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen" (and one for "Freaky Friday" before that), Lindsay Lohan is preparing for a full-fledged second career as a pop singer.
The actress’ debut single “Rumors” is featured on the Music Challenge this week.

Lindsay’s so eager to give music a shot that she plans to take some time off from making movies to do it right. Singing is her first love. “Rumors” is somewhere along the lines of hip-hop and rock – sounding like a cross between Britney Spears, Madonna and Avril Lavigne. What do you think of “Rumors”? Do you think it’s a strong enough song to get on the Top 20 Play List? After listening to the single, what do you think of Lindsay’s debut effort? Be sure and log on to www.histar.com and the Music Challenge page and vote! .

JESSE McCARTNEY
Beautiful Soul

Another actor who is “doubling” as a solo recording artist is Jesse McCartney. He plays the role of Bradin Westerly on the hit WB show Summerland. But before Jesse launched his solo career, he was a member of both the Sugar Beats and Dream Street, which opened for Britney Spears’ Onyx Hotel tour. His debut solo single “Beautiful Soul” has all the right ingredients to catapult 17-year-old Jesse into teen idol territory. It mixes vocal sounds similar to Justin Timberlake and Aaron Carter with a perfect blend of soulful grooves, infectious pop-rock hooks and charismatic, yet mature vocals. It’s connecting with mainstream audiences nationally and doing very well. How do you like “Beautiful Soul”? Do you think it’ll test well over the coming weeks of the Music Challenge? Listen to it at different times throughout the week to get an accurate read on it and then make your prediction at www.histar.com.

LIVE
We Deal In Dreams

Modern rock act Live has rounded up its greatest hits and music videos for the CD/DVD release Awake, The Best of LIVE available next week. The collection features 19 songs on CD, including a previously unreleased track from 1994, called “We Deal In Dreams”. “We Deal In Dreams” is featured on this week’s Music Challenge and it’s the band’s premiere single from the new compilation. Earlier this year, “Heaven,” the single from the 2003 release Birds Of Pray, soared to #2 on the Modern Adult chart! What’s your prediction for this new single? How do you think it’ll do on the Music Challenge in the weeks to come? Do you think it’ll be as successful as last year’s single “Heaven”? Be sure and listen to it a few times before casting your vote on the Star 100.7 Music Challenge page at www.histar.com.

MODEST MOUSE
Float On

Modest Mouse, the indie-rock trio from the Northwest has their current single, “Float On”, in this week’s Music Challenge. They are a band whose off-kilter sounds, herky-jerky rhythms, with the lead vocalist half wrapping and half singing, create something strangely catchy (so much so, that they’ve been together over 10 years and have a very strong fan base.) “Float On” is definitely a song you’ll have to listen to several times before you can form an opinion or make a prediction on it. Good luck with your vote!

The idea behind the new scoring system is to make it easier to follow, and more fun! It also rewards you for being ACCURATE and not just for being CLOSE

We’ve received your emails and phone calls asking us to explain the new scoring legend in detail, so here's how it works:

Let's assume you predicted a song to land in the Top 10.

Week 1: The song doesn't chart >> Your point balance remains 0.

Week 2: The song goes to 14th place (Top 15) >> Your point balance remains 0.

Week 3: The song goes to 7th place (Top 10) >> Your point balance becomes 1,000.

Week 4: The song goes to #1 (Top 5) >> Your point balance becomes 0 again.

So just like the first round, your point balance goes up and down on a per week basis (as we input the charts). The difference with round two is that the idea is to reward people for predicting the song totally accurate and not for anything else (such as coming close to the correct position).

1,150 points it the most you can get per song. 1,000 points if you predicted correctly and the song peaked at the position you chose. 100 points just for playing, and 50 points if you voted with the majority of the people who play
.

"It’s always good to use your intuition when making decisions about the predicted ‘likeability’ or ‘popularity’ of each song, however, try not to make a ‘snap decision’ after you’ve only heard the song once. Listen to each song on the Music Challenge at various times throughout the day, all through the week, until you have a better perception of each song.”
