Star 100.7 (September 27, 2004)

LOGON NOW: Listen to new music from this week's featured artists and predict the hits >>

CAR WASH
Christina Aguilera featuring Missy Elliott

They first got together to sing "Lady Marmalade" on the soundtrack of MOULIN ROUGE. Now Missy and Christina team up again for 'Car Wash', the 1977 disco hit, originally sung by Rose Royce. 'Car Wash' has been re-recorded for the animated film 'Shark Tale', due out next month. Log on to the Music Challenge page to listen to the song and make your prediction.

MINDI ABAIR
Every Time

Saxophonist Mindi Abair took the smooth jazz world by storm with her 2003 debut album, IT JUST HAPPENS THAT WAY. She's had 3 singles that have dominated the smooth jazz format with # 1 ranking hits and top 10 national airplay. Now, Mindi's talents are crossing over to Hot AC and she's in the Star Music Challenge this week!

FRANZ FERDINAND
Take Me Out

The most hyped band to come out of the UK in early 2004 is Glasgow, Scotland's Franz Ferdinand. They're an art-rock quartet of college art students-turned friends who formed their band 2 1/2 years ago in an abandoned warehouse in Glasgow. Part of Franz Ferdinand's appeal is that they manage to incorporate a wide variety of '70's and '80's influences in their songs without ever sounding like anyone else. Their U.S. debut single is called "Take Me Out" and is part of this weeks' Music Challenge.

FROU FROU
Let Go

Jingle Ball 2002 artist Frou Frou is in this week's Music Challenge. Fans of Frou Frou are rediscovering the British duo's debut album now that their song "Let Go" has been featured prominently in the hit movie Garden State, as well as on the film's fast-selling soundtrack. For the past five weeks "Let Go" has been a top 20 download on iTunes.

The idea behind the new scoring system is to make it easier to follow, and more fun! It also rewards you for being ACCURATE and not just for being CLOSE

We’ve received your emails and phone calls asking us to explain the new scoring legend in detail, so here's how it works:

Let's assume you predicted a song to land in the Top 10.

Week 1: The song doesn't chart >> Your point balance remains 0.

Week 2: The song goes to 14th place (Top 15) >> Your point balance remains 0.

Week 3: The song goes to 7th place (Top 10) >> Your point balance becomes 1,000.

Week 4: The song goes to #1 (Top 5) >> Your point balance becomes 0 again.

So just like the first round, your point balance goes up and down on a per week basis (as we input the charts). The difference with round two is that the idea is to reward people for predicting the song totally accurate and not for anything else (such as coming close to the correct position).

1,150 points it the most you can get per song. 1,000 points if you predicted correctly and the song peaked at the position you chose. 100 points just for playing, and 50 points if you voted with the majority of the people who play
.

"Be sure to listen to the songs more than one time! As you hear a song more and more, and become more familiar with it, your perception of the song will definitely change. The best way to play is to listen each evening between 6pm and 6:30pm when we play the song, give you some extra background information and then take listener input about the song. Then, get online and listen to all of the songs 3-5 times. Becoming familiar with the songs each week gives you a big advantage in predicting the hits"
