Dance Music Missing In San Diego (May 19, 2004)While 98.9 and 933 restrict the dance music mixes to early Sunday mornings when its core audience sleeps, radio in San Diego continues to be polluted with mindless MTV rap and soft love songs that is pure torture to anybody with a college degree. Neither 90.3 or 98.9 bother to mix in the true rhythmic genre simply called dance into their playlists, opting for a stale mix of R&B and rap music that is just painful to listen to.My and Star don't play today's dance music either. Too much white-bread A/C to satisfy me. Has San Diego become America's Behindest City? I keep thinking that I'm living in the realm of 1994 the way radio has been programming music nowadays. Haven't bought most of any music that I heard on the radio stations in the last seven years (only downloaded them illegally and made fun of them by blowing them up). So much for marketing via radio. Why is music on the radio so dumb nowadays? How about some fun comedy for us thinking minds? How about some real country music with steel guitars and a deep baritone? How about some pure dance music with a beat I can relate to? I was listening to what sounded like an adult contemporary love song in a 7/11 recently, then after the song ended, the announcer came on and gave the station ID: KSON. What? A country station playing soft love songs? What is the music director smoking? KBIG 104.3 from Los Angeles has a weeknight radio show on playing remixes of today's hits called "Boogie Nights", but they dilute the mix with pop tunes that are nowhere close to the dance genre too much. I think someone can do a better job there. Anyway, a radio show called "Tuned In Radio, The New Rhythm Of The Nation" counts down the top ten dance hits of the week and they have a website http://www.tunedinradio.com. Hey programmers at My, Star, and Channel, here's some more clues for you to steal for your playlists, preferably, played between three times a day between 10am and 6pm when we're actually listening to the radio.
