Nationwide Radio News 11-13-03!All Access (registration required)It's official! RUSH LIMBAUGH will return to the "golden EIB microphone" on MONDAY (11/17). DAVID LIMBAUGH, RUSH's brother, told substitute host MATT DRUDGE that the PREMIERE host will indeed do his first post-rehab show next week, as widely rumored. "RUSH is chomping at the bit to get back on the air," DAVID LIMBAUGH said, so he can personally express "how deeply moved he is by the love and loyalty" of his listeners and "his gratitude to his stations and his advertisers. And as you can imagine," DAVID added, "there are one or two other things on his mind that he wants to talk about as well!" Los Angeles Radio News 11-13-03!Richard WagonerDrama Hour Returns? No, not to KNX. Saul Levine, owner of K-SURF (1260 and 540 AM) says he plans to bring the Drama Hour to his own station, just as soon as he can get the necessary clearances. "As soon as we can get the material, we'll be on the air," Levine told laradio.com last week. As of press time, there no additional information available. The stereo light still lights up when compatible AM stereo radios tune into KNX, but there hasn't been an actual stereo signal coming from the station in a few weeks. Calls to the station confirmed that KNX plans to install digital HD Radio soon ... and the current HD Radio system is mono-only. You can tell when they switch it on: you'll hear nothing but hiss on both sides of KNX from 1050 to 1090, and the regular analog signal won't sound as good as normal. HD, in fact, requires a 5 KHz cutoff for analog in order for the digital to work, and the digital carriers interfere with the analog signal on most radios. Geoff Edwards has indeed left K-SURF mornings. Nick Gerard is his replacement. insideradio.com Tomorrow night's Beatles promotion by Infinity gets bigger -- and more controversial. ABC's KLOS in Los Angeles played the entire "Let It Be. . .Naked" album on Monday night's Jim Ladd show - and immediately heard yelps from the label. Infinity's planning a coordinated presentation in 35 markets Thursday night -- and now adds a panel discussion featuring stars like Sheryl Crow, Fred Durst, Billy Joel and Geraldo Rivera, and moderated by Pat O'Brien.
New Radio Star (maybe there is hope for local radio to carry Dr. Demento in the So. Cal. Outland) (November 11, 2003) The all-comedy programming added to Infinity's KLSX-FM posted huge ratings growth in the recently released Summer Arbitron. LA's Hot Talk KLSX-FM went all-comedy, weekend overnights, on August 29. The September segment of the Summer Arbitron exploded from a 1.5 share to a 6.4 share in adults 25-54 for that time period, as extrapolated by Maximiser. "We're delighted with the acceptance of a laugh-button on the LA radio dial", KLSX Program Director Jack Silver commented. "The programming is unique, compelling and funny". The programming is a blend of tightly edited professional stand-up comedy, in-studio interviews with touring comedians and radio-comedy such as parody news, phony phoners, topical bits and parody songs. The programming is produced and provided exclusively by Hollywood-based All Comedy Radio (http://www.allcomedyradio.com). San Bernadino Radio Wires 11-11-03!Call Sign Change: KRLH(AM), San Bernardino, to KTIE.San Diego Fall Ratings Period 1 11-11-03!Details at a couple of other well-known websites on the Internet. Some highlights: #1, #2, #3, #4, #5...who cares? In the country music wars, KSON dips down to a 3.6 while Bob 99.3 drops to a 1.2, even though Bob could be heard all over San Diego County, but San Diegans clearly prefer KSON Country so much that with the addition of KFSD-FM 92.1 to relay the KSON signal better in North County, the ratings for KSON are surely to go up at XHCR's expense in North County. In the alternative rock wars, with 92.1's final month rating at 0.8, KBZT, which has stolen most of the ratings of 92.1 and 91X, climbs up to a 2.8, while 91X is down to a 2.2. The three sports stations, ESPN 800, XPRS 1090, and XTRA 690, combine to a total rating from 1.5 to 1.8, but the rating of ESPN 800 is not posted since it's too low.
