Cox Cable Adds Radio Stations on Digital Tier 11-14-03!The 900 section of the Cox Digital Channel Lineup has a new group of radio stations to add to its lame Music Choice lineup (XM and Internet radio beats them hands down). How about some actual radio stations from San Diego? Yup. You can almost watch your favorite radio stations on TV, so it will be years before the local radio stations get actual TV channels on the cable to go with the radio stations. Anyway, the new group of radio stations that will be on Cox Digital Cable goes as follows... 946 KFSD Classical (AM 1450) 947 KUSC Classical (FM 91.5 L.A.) 948 KYXY Soft Rock (96.5) 949 KSDS Jazz (88.3 SD City College) 950 KSON Country (97.3/92.1) 951 91X Alternative (91.1) 952 KGB Dinosaur Rock (101.5) 953 KPBS Public (89.5) 954 KMYI A/C (94.1) 955 KIFM Smooth Jazz (98.1) 956 KCR SDSU Radio (cox 98.9) 957 KSDT UCSD Radio (cox 95.7) 958 KKSM Palomar College (AM 1320 Oceanside, Cox North 92.3) 959 KPLN Classic Hits (103.7) 960 The Mighty 1090 Sports (1090)Cox San Diego Newsletter - November 2003 Channel Line-up Change Coming In December Missing from the lineup: all of the AM stations KOGO 600, XTRA 690, KFMB 760, KECR 910, ESPN 800, KCBQ 1170, KCEO 1000, KSDO 1130, KSON 1240, KPOP 1360. FM stations Z90 90.3, Magic 92.5, Channel 93.3, FM 94.9, "KOOL" 95.7, MORE 98.9, BOB 99.3, KLOVE 100.1, Star 100.7, KPRI 102.1, Rock 105.3, La Nueva 106.5, K-Love 102.9. Once again, Cox Cable comes up short and excludes many stations I listen to on a regular basis. This is the same company that dropped KHJ 9 in 1982 when movies, Elvira, and the Los Angeles Lakers were the main draw for the station. Can't these boneheads from Cox think right? Also another case of Cox idiocy: They're adding MTV2 to the extended basic. Like we need another video pop channel? Discovery Health is just another niche channel. How about adding a channel serving a more mainstream niche like moving Game Show Network from digital to extended basic so I can tape the shows. Can't do that with their converter box and my VCR until VCRs are made to recognize digital channels in the broadband. Also, Cox should just drop the scrambled pay channels from the analog since they're on digital and add in a few local TV channels not carried here. Lets put UCSD 35 on a full time channel. Also, add in Game Show Network from digital, and add in Boomerang to replace the pay channels on 53-55 and you got a better value to the analog cable lineup. Also note that Leased Access is moving to channel 95 and PAX TV is moving to channel 96. My TV and VCR gets cable channels 95 and 96 in the FM band, severely prone to interference from the local channels, so instead of Pax, you'll hear a few Clear Channel radio stations dogfighting for attention on the cable channels 95 and 96. Also: cable channels 95 and 96 is where the FM radio stations on cable are broadcasting. Does this mean that Cox is dropping the cable FM band? Say goodbye to KCR and KSDT. Time to replace the cable with satellite radio. Does anyone watch cable 14 anymore? What's the use of carrying KTLA if all Cox can carry is the LA news? Replace it with NickToons instead of putting it on digital. Digital cable. Once my TV and VCRs can get the channels without the dreaded converter box, I'll consider paying for the extra channels. Boxes don't work the way I do. |
