KSON 97.3 News (10-31-2003)

We here at KSON would like to extend to all of you our best wishes and prayers in this dire time. As you know, KSON prides itself on being a beacon to the community in times like these.

With that said, we would like to invite you to join us this Saturday, November 1st to support the efforts of The San Diego Humane Society.

A great deal of time has been spent by the local media getting the word out about the needs of victims of the devastating fires in San Diego County – forgotten sometimes are the animals that, for whatever reason, were left behind and rescued by police or neighbors. The San Diego Humane Society is in desperate need of funds to house and care for literally thousands of animals rescued from the fires. Join KSON this Saturday as we fill “Tiny”, KSON and the San Diego County Chevy Dealers’ Monster Truck, with cash…to help out the four-legged victims of the fires.

This Saturday, November 1st from 10:00am to 4:00pm we’ll be at the 7-11 in Lakeside at 10133 Maine Ave at Mapleview (across from the Lakeside Rodeo Grounds where many horses and other animals are being kept). You can help by making a cash or check donation to the San Diego Humane Society. Make a minimum $25 donation during the event and receive a 40th Anniversary KSON Ball Cap. 100 percent of this money will be donated to the Humane Society and stay right here in San Diego to help animals displaced or injured because of the fires.

Just in case you can't make it out this Saturday, you can still donate to the San Diego Humane Society by phone, mail or online! Click this link for all the details: http://www.sdhumane.org/howyoucanhelp/donations.cfm

As a community, we always seem to pull together and get through the tough times. Thank you for your help.

94/9 Broadcasts R.E.M. Concert (10-29-03)!

As you already may be aware, R.E.M. is playing a special show at The Avalon in Hollywood, next Wednesday, October 29th, in support of their forth-coming "best of" album, In Time: 1988 - 2003. The show is already sold-out, so unfortunately many of us in San Diego will not be able to attend the show. However, FM 94/9 will broadcast the entire concert live and commercial free, starting at 9:00 pm on Wednesday.

Also, remember to listen to Halloran on Wednesday afternoon as he will be broadcasting live from backstage at the Avalon and interviewing the band before their show. Along with broadcasting the R.E.M. concert on Wednesday night, FM 94/9 has made special arrangements for a few of our Insiders to attend the show. FM 94/9 will send three of our biggest R.E.M. fans and their guests to the show at the Avalon, escort you there and back in a limousine and give you a limited-edition, autographed copy of In Time: 1988 - 2003.

Follow the secret link in your 94/9 e-mail for more information.

Also: Anya replaces Al Guerra on The Local 94/9 Sundays at 8pm.

Star 98.7 in Los Angeles is also covering the concert, but will have a one-hour preconcert show.
