Random Thought 9-26-2003

Heard on "Friends" last night...

So I'm watching Friends (nothing better to do and I have writer's block, gimme a break...) and Monica has frizzy hair from humidity.. Chandler says "I came here with Monica and I'm leaving with Weird Al"

KKSM Begins Streaming in October (9-26-2003)

KKSM 1320 - Zeb Navarro sends through his oldiesandoddities mailing list some news about the station and his show...

"In early 2003 I was officially installed as the new Program Director of KKSM taking over for my mentor Rich Clements (who did one helluva job). So I have been very busy with my new duties of running KKSM with my assistant Program Director Lindsay Lutz....

"As you might now that my main goal once I became Program Director was to implement Internet streaming for KKSM. After four years of fighting it has paid off. We have signed a deal with the RIAA, BMI, ASCAP, and CESAC for rights to stream on the Internet. THIS IS OFFICIAL!!!! We will begin streaming in mid-October... I'm on the air using an AccuPlaylist software. The [Oldies and Oddities, now on Sundays due to football] shows may even be archived just in case if you missed you can always catch it again.

"I just finished filming a scene for "11th Hour" where I play a judge overseeing an appeals case for a convicted murderer. Other than that I try to stay out of the film roles unless a student asks me to be in it."

When asked why he didn't run for Governor? "I don't have 3500 bucks to waist. These small no name candidates are gonna get a wake up call back to reality on October 8th." He says Yes on recall and yes on Arnold Schwarzenegger...

Very Brief Briefs 9-25-2003

91X.com would like to congratulate Liz Calderon and Wade Crouch who entered the radio station's website and won tickets courtesy of 91X, and will be hanging with the Black and Red crew rock the UCSD campus. Keep listening to 91X and check out 91X.com for your chance to win tickets to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Queens of the Stoneage and more.

Transmasters Transmissions recently resurrected their old Arnold sound-alike ad featuring the melody from The Bucketheads in the background. Timing was coincidental?

What The Hell?...

North County Times - Randy Dotinga
has the headline that belongs in the TV dept: "Dreams" will be evolving on NBC.

North County Times - Ann Zivotsky
has the headline that belongs in the radio dept: FCC radio rules still on the hot seat.

Also: Evening disc jockey Lisa Tyler is out at classic rock station 103.7/The Planet. The British-accented Tyler, a native of the U.K., underwent a name change not too long ago, when station management decided that her nickname "Angel" ---- a holdover from her days at Top 40 station Channel 933 (she was also on Z90) ---- had to go. Now she's gone too, and her absence is sure to make Anglophiles verklempt.

Thanks for reading _____ Radio News.

Very Brief Briefs 9-24-2003

Roger Hedgecock voted with his heart on McClintock yesterday on his show. His candidate lost in the "primary" to Schwartzenegger. So, he's decided to vote for Arnold. Will Republicans unite behind one gubernatoral candidate?

Anya celebrated her birthday on 94/9 Tuesday.

Pirate 96.9 has some funny station IDs featuring, well, announcers sounding like pirates.

More news Thursday. We're out golfing at the 27 hole course at Blue Street Hills in the Moon Unit Valley section of El Zona de los Misterio.

Backwaves: The Readers Strike Back! 9-22-03

From Jared Wilson: "D.T. Asks" hits the nail on the head what's wrong with radio in San Diego today. 90.7 from TJ is there just so we don't get Radio Pacifica from L.A. I hope XLNC crap goes off the air! The Diaz family don't deserve to be in the broadcasting business if they're using Mexican stations to censor liberal views from L.A. KPRI needs to sound more like The Loop instead of Star. AAA is boring. Classic rock mixed with new rock that rocks is what KPRI should have sounded like. 933 sucks; nothing but mind-numbing R&B pop songs. That KGB guy is on too much. What is it, 80 hours a week? Whoever programs the station needs a good brain surgeon. No wonder Internet radio beats KGB. I'd buy 91X in a minute just to reprogram the station into garage rock. The Union-Tribune writers know nothing about better radio available on the Internet. Who cares about some metro opera of the week program synopsis? Art Bell can just get abducted by aliens from Zupluturn of whatever. Mojo just can't hack it on the radio. His songs stink too. 94/9 is a subset of 91X. Both crap pop punk stations.
