Fall 2002 Ratings Periods 1-3!

The fall of 2002 has come to a close and it's time to share the results of the survey, as well as the year-end poll of radio stations conducted on a mailing list only.

Registered voters have been sending in what stations they listened to each day via e-mail and registration number, and as for Arbitron, their idea of restrictive voting is outdated and useless for today's music listening base.

Evalutron 2002 Year-End Poll Winners:

Best SD Rock: KPRI. Best SD Light Pop: KIFM. Best SD Top 40: no reccomendation. Best SD Talk: KCBQ 1170. Best SD Radio News: KPBS-FM. Best Christmas station: DFSXmas. Best country station: KSON. Best dance station on the Internet: Party 93.1. Best rock station on the Internet: KOZT Ft. Bragg. Best morning radio show on the Internet: Bob and Tom. Best Morning SD Radio Show: Jeff and Jer (narrowly beating Madison & Tony). Best Internet non-dance radio station: KDRadio.com. Best reason to listen to Internet Radio: electronica. Best local talk show: Hooked on Trivia. Best local music show: Go Loco. Best syndicated talk show: Rush Limbaugh. Best syndicated music show: Digital Groove (though Dr. Demento ranked a close second).

Worst music station in San Diego: KGB. Worst format change: 94.9 to alternative. Worst talk station in San Diego: KOGO. Worst playlist of new songs: Channel 933. Worst news item of 2002: Clear Channel takes over Z90 and 99.3. Worst name change: Hot Country 99.3 to Bob 99.3. Most overlooked genre to program in San Diego: 24 hours of progressive dance. Runner up: adult rock on a stronger stick. Worst SD Radio advertiser: Mossy everything! Worst time to listen to San Diego radio: Sunday nights. Worst SD Radio music personality: Mojo Nixon. Worst SD Radio talk personality: TIE: Ted Leitner, Roger Hedgecock, Rick Roberts, Dave Rickards, and Mikey (must have been a weird coincidence as they each garnered 13 percent.) Worst SD Radio programmer: Diana Laird (CC). Worst programming decision (not a format change): KGB firing Jim McInnes. Worst use of a radio station budget: KGB's fireworks shows. Worst thing about SD Radio: voice-tracked jocks, runner up is short playlists, and third is long commercial breaks.

Evalutron Fall 2002 Results:

NOTE: the last rating is period 3 2002 Evalutron survey, the first two are the ratings for the previous months in ascending order. Also note that a lot of people on the mailing list forgot to return their December surveys in time due to the holidays, even with the deadline extended through Tuesday the 7th. Also note that a lot less Internet listening is due to the Holiday activities, so that's why you see a surge in several terrestrial broadcasters in the San Diego area. Note that the total rating averages exceed 100.00 because people listen to more than one radio station regularily or credit more than one station as being listened-to in an hour.
