Radio Wires (July 25, 2002)Chris Carmichael - San Diego Radio Net:GO>>> Ratings Rants...see the for yourself at his site. He asks "But ... who is number one? Who is on your radio dial at the present moment ....." Is your radio on at the moment? "Meanwhile, a search for a new radio chief at the [Clear Channel] station group .... continues." I might even volunteer for free! I know exactly what needs to be done. "KPOP 1360 to adjust schedule." Wonder if they'll be adding classic disco to the mix. Carmichael talked to Randy Phillips of ESPN Radio, which launched its new affilliate in Tijuana on XEMMM 800 last week. Local talent is about 90 days away, perhaps too far away according to some critics in the U-T. But does San Diego really need two all-sports radio stations? Is there more room for two AM adult contemporary stations? Does San Diego really care for even one AM classical radio station? ESPN Radio 800 plans to carry USC Football and Basketball games (XTRA 690 may do UCLA but I'm not sure). Media Access Partners provides U.S. sales and consultation services for Cadena Baja California, (CBC) of Tijuana, MX. CBC owns and operates three radio stations in Tijuana/San Diego. They are ESPN Radio 800 (XEMMM), Latin Alternative, MORE FM (XHMOR-FM 98.9) and Spanish News/Talk, XEBG (AM 1550) Media Access Partners is headed by San Diego broadcast veterans, Rodger Seelert and Randy Phillips.
