Raul Alarcon, Chairman and CEO of Spanish Broadcasting System, Inc., said the new dance format is a natural fit with the company's Spanish-language radio stations. Dance Music Hits San Francisco (May 11, 2002)Could a dance-formatted radio station be coming soon to the Los Angeles Outland, and even in the San Diego Outland areas soon? We progressive electronic dance music fans hope so.According to several message boards including the Southern California Groove Messageboard, a radio station in the San Francisco area has reformatted a radio station on 92.7 into a dance music format this past May 11-12 weekend. Here is the composite news about the new Party 92.7 as compiled from numerous posters on the Groove messageboard. KPTI, 92.7 FM, antes KXJO, se conocer como, The Bay rea's Pure dance Channel Translation is that 92.7 KPTI, Party 92.7 is to be a new dance station programmed by Bill Tanner of Party in Orlando and Power in Miami. 92.7, based in Alameda, was once a simulcast of KSJO in San Jose but Clear Channel had to sell it off when completing the AMFM merger. Clear Channel wanted to keep the signals that penetrated the San Fransciso area, and 92.7, a Class A signal, does not do the job. The signal's best coverage is in the East Bay, Oakland and south. Bill Tanner is the Vice President of Programming of SBS and he is based in Miami, where he has his main residence in Cocomut Grove, where he spends more time (partly due to his WPOW work) because the SBS corporate headquarters are there. He has a second home in LA. 93.5 is also SBS' in LA; the two stations will soon be returning to SBS control and they apparently are going to do dnace, either in English or Spanish. Tanner works for Cox in 4 markets and Beasley in Miami. In fact, his son is CE of Cox's Birmingham cluster, and Tanner owns part of a TV station with the Cox manager form Birmingham. Bill Tanner is the in-house program consultant for Power 96 in Miami and has been for about 10 years. Hew works with GM Greg Beasley, PD Kid Curry and outside consutant Jerry Clifton. Tanner also consults Party in Orlando, and has since it signed on. He also consults Cox's two Birmingham urban stations, The Beat in Atlanta and WBLI on Long Island. He has been consulting all these for at least 5 years. Tanner was program consultant for KLVE and KSCA in Los Angeles (and for a very short time for WAMR in Miami) for Heftel Broadcasting. He departed just shortly after HBC was created form Tichenor Media Systems and Heftel; he never was involved in any other Heftel or Tichenor market.
