Cox South Shuffles Cable Lineup (Jan 2002)As of today, Cox Cable South has rearranged their cable lineup. The International Channel, StarZ, the second feeds of HBO, Showtime, and Cinemax, and the Hallmark Channel (what is that, an all-greeting card station?), moved to the realm of the digital television.The cable channels from 75-80 will be freed up for future use. Hopefully, Cox will think of adding some local stations such as the low power 29, 43, and 48 to their lineup. We got enough stations from space with no local flavor as it is on the basic cable lineup. ITV moves from 23 to 16 KBNT, formerly on over-the-air 19 and now 17, moves from cable 16 to 17 Public Access/California Channel moves from 24 to 23 The County Television Network moves from 17 to 24 Home Shopping Network moves from 66 to 27 TBS moves from 27 to 33 Speedvision moves from 78 to 56 AMC moves from 33 to 57 Turner Classic Movies moves from 74 to 58 TV Land moves from 65 to 59 ESPN Classic moves from 77 to 65 UCSD-TV, which shared space with Hallmark when they were both on 76 now stands by its lonesome at last on 66. Unfortunately, cable channel 66 is roughly the same frequency as the multi-million watt KPBS broadcasting on UHF channel 15, so you will be seeing a lot of interference on cable 66 (as well as 67 since UHF 15 straddles both cable channels) if your cable hookup is not too tight. If you're within an earshot of the KPBS transmitter...lotsa luck! Leased Access moves from 75 to 74. Not sure if Sneak Prevues survived the cut. Note that cable channel 97, which is a PPV channel, soon to be phased out, is on the equivalent of cable channel 79. Why Cox did that, I don't know. If I Slotted Cox Cable...My goal: locality, as well as notable popular cable networks.
