TV Stars in Hollywood Survivor (Feb 2, 2001)Last Friday, Jay Leno's Tonight Show spoofed the Survivor series with it's own version of the game involving stars from past TV shows involving people who lasted for years and years, even decades. For the next several weeks, Leno stranded two teams of players in a remote sound stage and have them vote each other off. For the Cahuenga Tribe, the Brady Bunch mom, Florence Henderson; from Dallas, Charlene Tilton; from Eight is Enough, Adam Rich; and from Leave it to Beaver, Jerry Mathers as The Beaver. For the Topanga Tribe, the Partridge Family kid who also does mornings on Star 98.7 in Los Angeles, Danny Bonaduce; from Little House on the Prarie, Alison Arngrim; from Gilligan's Island, the real island, Dawn Wells; and from Diff'rent Strokes, Gary Coleman. Ed Hall was their low-budget version of Jeff Probst. Ed took the eight celebrities backstage to get them ready for their first challenge: to locate and use a cell phone. Hidden within their two competeting TV Show living room replicas are a cell phone, and also hidden separately, an address book, where there is a telephone number on Jay Leno's desk. The object: be the first to locate the cell phone and the address book where the team looks up the number to phone Jay. The first team to do so won an immunity idol, and the losing team goes to the Tribal Council to vote a team member off the set. After a minute, Coleman found the phone, then Florence found the phone book, then Coleman found the phone book, Danny called Jay, and the Topanga Tribe won immunity. The losing Cahuenga Tribe had to vote one of its members off the island. Ed tallied the votes: one vote for Florence, and three votes for Adam. Adam had'em! He had to bring Ed the back of the director's chair and was asked to beat it. Guess who voted for Florence? Will Danny Bonaduce continue to get happy? Will Gary Coleman get adopted by Ice-T? Will Eddie Haskell pop in and bother The Beav? This Friday night, another TV star will be voted off the island in... Hollywood Survivor! TV Stars in Hollywood Survivor Week 2 (Feb 9, 2001)Last Friday, it was the second installment of Jay Leno's Tonight Show as it spoofed the Survivor series with it's own version of the game involving stars from past TV shows who lasted for years and years, even decades. For a seven week period beginning from February 2, Leno stranded two teams of players in a remote sound stage and have them vote each other off. For the Cahuenga Tribe, the Brady Bunch mom, Florence Henderson; from Dallas, Charlene Tilton; and from Leave it to Beaver, Jerry Mathers as The Beaver. Last week, Adam Rich of "Eight is Enough" was voted off the team.
Ed took the There are four food stations between the start location of the race and the Tonight Show stage. Each survivor anchored one of the legs of the race and be required to eat one of the four foods. A member of the tribe started his leg running to station #1 to eat brussel sprouts, then after they've eaten it, they stuck out their tongue to the camera to prove that they have eaten it. Then they tagged their team member to run to station #2 to eat some spam. They had to eat an entire spoonful of it. Then they tagged another team member to run to station #3 where they have to eat a fish eye! (WHAT?!?) They have been poached. The last team member will run to station #4 on the Tonight Show stage to eat some super worms. The winner gets an immunity idol, and the losing tribe voted another member of the team off the show. But the Coalinga Tribe has only three members, so the rule is that the person on the team that starts the leg also doubles as the person who runs the last leg as well. Wells and the Beaver started their legs (the Beav eats the worms!) Coleman and Henderson had the second leg; Coleman dumps the can onto the dish and takes a bite out of it! Bonaduce and Tilton got the eyeball in the third station. Tilton freaked out a bit after she ate the eye! Tilton tags the Beaver who eats the worm and wins the Hollywood Survivor challenge #2 and gets the immunity idol for the Cahuenga Tribe. Bonaduce eats the worm just for fun, but his team has to then kick a member off the Topanga Tribe. Allison never got a chance to eat the worm! After a commercial break, Ed tallied up the votes; Danny Bonaduce voted for Gary to be off the tribe giving a reason that "he was slow to run, he choked on the spam, and he keeps grabbing Alice's butt!" (who's Alice?) Jay said that Gary just took a little nibble out of it. The total votes: one for Dawn, and three for Gary! Gary had to take his name off of the director's chair, hand it to Ed, walk out the door onto Alameda Avenue, and hail a cab home! Guess who voted for Dawn? I doubt it that someone would vote themselves off the team. Maybe Adam Rich did last week, but who knows? Looks like Danny Bonaduce survived another round of Hollywood Survivor. This Friday night, another TV star will be voted off the island in... Hollywood Survivor! TV Stars in Hollywood Survivor Week 3 (Feb 16, 2001)Last Friday, it was the third installment of Jay Leno's Tonight Show as it spoofed the Survivor series with it's own version of the game involving stars from past TV shows who lasted for years and years, even decades. For a four week period beginning from February 2, Leno stranded two teams of players in a remote sound stage and have them vote each other off. For the Cahuenga Tribe, the Brady Bunch mom, Florence Henderson; from Dallas, Charlene Tilton, who is also a columnist for The Globe tabloid; and from Leave it to Beaver, Jerry Mathers as The Beaver. In week 1, Adam Rich of "Eight is Enough" was voted off the team. For the Topanga Tribe, the Partridge Family kid who also does mornings on Star 98.7 in Los Angeles, Danny Bonaduce; from Little House on the Prarie, Alison Arngrim; and from Gilligan's Island, the real island, Dawn Wells. In week 2, the annoying Gary Coleman of "Diff'rent Strokes" was voted off the team. On a side note: Danny Bonaduce just became a father last week as his wife Gretchen gave birth to Dante on February 14th.
Ed Hall was their low-budget version of Jeff Probst. Ed took the There were two vats of mud from the latest Malibu mudslides. Hidden inside that mud along with a cell phone, cans of beer, and old shoes, are three Tupperware containers. Inside each container is a matchbox with one match inside it. One survivor from each team would reach into the mud, find the Tupperware container, and hand it to the second member of the team, who will open it, strike the match, and hand the match to the third member of the team, who will walk over and light up their own aroma therapy candle. The first team to light the candle gained immunity and the other tribe had to vote another member of their team out. But, if their match goes out, they have to come back to the mud and find another match and repeat the process. Alison and The Beav were the designated mud dredgers who had to find the Tupperware containers. The Beav found the container first. Then Allison found it. Dawn and Charlene opened the containers and lighted the matches and handed it to Danny and Florence respectively. It's a race for each to be the first to light the candle. Danny beats Florence by two seconds. The Topanga Tribe is granted immunity, but the losing Cahuenga Tribe had to vote another member off the island. BUT HOLD ON A MINUTE...during a commercial break, the judges looked at the replay tapes and discovered there was some cheating amongst the Topanga Tribe. Allison, the mud dredger, opened the container before handing it to Dawn; Dawn was supposed to open it. Soooo....we have a DQ and the Cahuenga Tribe and the immunity idol goes to the Topanga Tribe instead! After a commercial break, Ed tallied up the votes; Two votes for Danny, and one for...Danny? Danny voted himself off the island! The reason Danny got rid of himself? Bonaduce explains, "I'm 40 years old and I'm groveling through the dirt with the Beaver. Send me home!" Danny had to take his name off of the director's chair, hand it to Ed, walk out the door onto Alameda Avenue, and be forced to take public transportation home. You'll see Gary Coleman still trying to hail a cab home from last week! Looks like Danny Bonaduce got happy for voting himself off and it was mutual with his teammates. Since there are five members left, the remaining tribe members will form one tribe and compete against each other. This Wednesday night, another TV star will be voted off, and on Friday, on the final Survivor night, there will be one winner in the... Hollywood Survivor! Hollywood Survivor Week 4 (Feb 21, 2001)Tonight is the final installment of Hollywood Survivor on The Tonight Show. Here is a recap of Wednesday's challenges. For the last four weeks, Jay Leno's Tonight Show has taken eight big TV stars to compete in pointless contests for your amusement. So far, three TV stars were voted out. That night, they eliminated two TV stars in two separate contests. The remaining survivors of "The Brady Bunch"'s Florence Henderson, from "Little House on the Prarie", Alison Arngrim, from "Dallas", Charlene Tilton, from "Gilligan's Island", Dawn Wells, and from "Leave It to Beaver", Jerry Mathers. In the last three weeks, they voted off Adam Rich, Gary Coleman, and Danny Bonaduce. There were two tribes. Now there is one big tribe with members competeting against each other. For the first of two challenges on that Wednesday, it's a race to get water. Each star ran to the jungle set where they have hidden fifteen of the green piggybanks. Inside five of them are bottle openers, and the other ten have pieces of metal. When they find the piggy banks, they ran over to the designated circle and smash it with a rubber mallet, and keep doing it until you find the bottle opener. Once found, they run over to the start page where they have Hollywood's version of water: Perrier. They open it bottle and drink it up as fast as they can, and the first one to do so wins the immunity idol. Jerry Mathers found the bottle opener, runs to the Perrier and begins drinking it. Florence Henderson finds one too and starts to drink the Perrier after the Beav finishes his off. The Beav wins the immunity idol. Believe in The Beav! The Tribal Council then voted to kick off one of the stars. Allison voted off Florence. The ballots are counted and Ed tallied up the votes: Ed Hall counted up the votes: Two for Florence and three for Allison. Allison handed Ed the back of the her director's chair, walk down the steps, out the door, and into a 1996 Hundai Excel where it would drive the star back to a block near home. The Little House on her prarie burned to the ground! There was another competetion later in the show with the four remaining stars. The next immunity challenge is all about a star having the best seat in Hollywood in restaurants, premieres, sporting events, etc. So, they played a version of Musical Chairs on the set. Three sets were placed on the set. The band played a song, and you know the rest of the rules. But when there is one chair left in the final round, the person who got the last chair is the winner and wins the immunity idol for the round. There are two things to do first. They placed a wall on the set to block the view to the Tonight Show band to prevent cheating and keeping the stars from seeing Kevin Eubanks queueing up to play. The second thing they did: they covered the seats with whipped cream! The first musical round was played with three chairs (theme from The Brady Bunch), the music stopped, and all but Dawn got the seat. The second musical round was played with two chairs (theme from Gilligan's Island), the music stopped, and all but Charlene got the seat. The final musical round was played with one chair (theme from Leave It To Beaver), the music stopped, and Florence got the last seat and she won the immunity idol! Now it was time for the Tribal Council to cast the ballot and kick another star off the set. Dawn voted to kick off The Beav! Ouch! The ballots are counted and Ed tallied up the votes: two for Dawn and two for The Beav. It's a tie! So, host Jay Leno took an audience poll to vanish one of these two. The audience that applauded the loudest voted to kick a star off the set. The audience voted to kick off Dawn. Dawn had to bring Ed back of the director's chair and walk off the set. One of the three remaining TV stars will be the ultimate Hollywood Survivor on this evening's Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Hollywood Survivor Week 4 (Feb 23, 2001)Hollywood Survivor: The Grand FinaleHollywood Survivor, a feature during the Tonight Show with Jay Leno show during the February sweeps, has been gripping the whole nation in press outlets worldwide (at least on davesfunstuff.com that is!)Friday, the ultimate Hollywood Survivor was chosen out of a pool of eight classic sitcom stars that the series started out with, and challenge by challenge, one was elimiated until the final survivor was declared the winner. In case you have been living in a cave for the past four weeks, here's a recap. Four weeks ago, eight TV legends from the past were marooned on a studio set and divided into two teams. The Topanga Tribe and the Cauhenga Tribe. Pitted against each other in mindless games, Topanga's tribe drew first blood, and set the Cauhengas to Tribal Council to vote one of their members off the set. Adam Rich was the first to go. Reduced to there, the Cauhuengas only got stronger. They won immunity, game after game, forcing the Topangas to vote off member after member. Off went Gary Coleman and Danny Bonaduce. The two tribes combined to compete against each other, but the Cauhenga loyalty stayed intact. Allison Arngrim was voted off after the fourth challenge. After a messy game of musical chairs, the Survivors were reduced to three. Dawn Wells was voted off in a tie-breaking vote by the audience. That was the end of the former Topanga tribe. The three finalists: Charlene Tilton, Florence Henderson, and Jerry Mathers as the Beaver. As for the five survivors voted off? They're back that night to seek revenge on the people who voted them off as they help vote two of the remaining survivor hopefuls off the set. Ed Hall, the budget Jeff Probst, announces a new challenge: a game of Twister! The spinner tells each person what to place their foot and hands on what color. You've played the game. Weird Al Yankovic sang about it. The person who falls or touches the mat with an elbow or a knee is disqualified. The last person left is the winner and gets the immunity idol who would go into the final round. One more thing: to make the game more difficult, there are pies placed on some of the dots on the mat. If a person touches any of the pies with any part of the body, they are disqualified. Are we doing Twister or Beat The Clock? The first spin: left hand blue. The second spin: left hand red. The third spin: left foot red. OOOH! Jerry is out! The fourth spin: right foot yellow. The fifth spin: left foot yellow. The sixth spin: left hand yellow. OH NO! Jay places pies on Florences and Charlene's posteriors. The first one to drop a pie loses. The seventh spin: left foot red. The eighth spin: left hand green. The ninth spin: right foot green. The tenth spin: left foot green. OW! Charlene lost her pie! Florence gets the immunity idol! Now, either Charlene or The Beav had to be voted off. But due to the fact that Charlene's and The Beav's votes would cancel each other out, unless they voted themselves off, only Florence could vote to eliminate one of the two. The Tribal Council Jury is announced by Jay Leno. They Jury consists of the stars that were voted off in the past five challenges. Adam Rich of "Eight is Enough", Gary Coleman of "Diff'rent Strokes", Danny Bonaduce of "The Partridge Family", Allison Arngrim of "Little House on the Prarie", and Dawn Wells of "Gilligan's Island." What's the Jury going to do. We'll explain in a few. The vote has been cast. Florence is brought back. When Ed Hall read the name, the star brought their chair over to the Tribal Council Jury. The loser is... Charlene Tilton! Florence has spoken. Dallas has been cancelled! Now Charlene is on the Jury and Florence and The Beav are left on the set. Now for the final Tribal Council vote. The remaining TV stars had fifteen seconds to state why they should be the final Hollywood Survivor in their opening remark segment. Florence said she needed a guy like the Beav on the team, and it was a joy to be with everybody on the Island. She said she's the mother of the world as time ran out. The Beav said there was no hard feelings and working with stars have always been great. He's been an actor for over 50 years and done a lot of acting gigs. Now it was for the Jury to vote. Danny told Ed to hurry up to vote because it's cutting into his drinking time. The jurors voted differently. They voted for the star they want to WIN. After the commercial break, the votes were tallied. Allison voted for The Beav. She says he swalloed a brussel sprout whole and she said she knew some friends in West Hollywood that want to see him after the show. Danny voted for Florence, going with the Flo, saying she's the only one on the set with any actual talent. The votes have been cast. Here are the votes. JERRY FLO JERRY JERRY FLO And the final vote... JERRY MATHERS! Congratulations to Jerry Mathers, the Ultimate Hollywood Survivor. He is awarded with a trophy in the first Hollywood Survivor. Believe in the Beav! That's it for the Hollywood Survivor play by play report from the Jay Leno report. |
