The holidays are finally coming to an end. We got up at around 10am Mountain West Daylight Time, which was 9am Mountain West Standard Time, 9am Pacific Daylight Time, and 8am Pacific Standard Time. Once again, San Rubio county was a patchwork of confusing time zone differences. I'm not going to go into that again.
We drove to downtown San Rubio to see the annual Big Balloon Parade, the biggest balloon and float parade in the world. We saw some balloons made out in the figures of Hillary and Barrack, but when a wind gust hit them, the two crashed into each other. Both of them fell down defeated. We still don't know who would win.
Another balloon was made to look like, well, of course, Ana Tijuana. It proved to be one of the most popular balloons in the parade.
One balloon was in the shape of Harry Potter, proving that there's something for geeks as well in the parade to enjoy.
One balloon was the winner of the parade. The winner? Pac-Man! There were also floating dots and ghost monsters near the Pac-Man balloon. Can't believe that he's in his 28th year and still relevant today.
The Grand Marshall of the parade was Chachi, who helped make the militia and his friends into demon slayers and helped keep the attacks under check.
Later on after the parade, we went to the Bust and Daver's Gaming and Bar to watch the grand finale of the Vernalmas Madness college basketball tournament. It was UBSA (University Banana State Smog Angeles) vs. Duke of Hazzard University (DOHU). They had to play into triple overtime until Duke of Hazzard beat Smog Angeles by the score of 163 to 162 1/2. A 1/2? In the last second, the ball thrown by a Smog Angeles for a three pointer hit the beam and stuck to it without falling into it or falling off of it. So the referee granted the throw one and a half points instead of three points. Weird, eh?
We had a fun picnic after the game near Lake Mira Mira. We had barbequed fish and asian vegetables, as well as our favorite treat: Chocolate Dots. They were inch-wide balls of ice cream covered with a hard chocolate shell, and inside the dot is a blast of syrup of varying flavors. Just pop one in your mouth and feel it explode in delicity!
Lastly, we went to Schlitz Amphitheatre to see a tribute band to the Talking Heads called Once in a Lifetime. They performed most of the classics and a few rarities from the Talking Heads. A female singer by the name of Shayonce (a cross between Shakira and Beyonce) helped the band by singing a few songs by the Talking Heads side project called Tom Tom Club. On the semi finale, they performed Genuis of Love and then mashed it with a Mariah Carey song that used the same beat in the song whatever that was called. They closed the show with a performance of Take Me To The River, then came back for an encore with another one, Life During Wartime.
After the show, we saw the fireworks show at the ampitheater with colorful blasts and feats of patterns.
What a day to end the vacation. Whew. At 11pm Pacific Daylight Time, it was time for me to return home in San Diego. Alyssa, Chachi, Angelina, and Carlotta wished me farewell and looked forward to seeing me visit El Zona again, hopefully when things are more normal, or abnormal, than it was in the past 17 days I was here in El Zona.
Scotty took me in his Earnhardtian automobile fitted with a realm machine to state highway 125, which is one of the few highways that has a time warphole that parallels the real world in San Diego county. He drove up to the freeway, activated the realm machine, sped up to 97 MPH, it was 88, but he felt like going faster anyway, then we went through a flashing warphole, and reentered San Diego county. He slowed down to normal speed.
He dropped me off at my house. We shook hands and thanked each other for an exciting vacation and were glad that some of our collective knowledge in pop culture helped Mindy and her and our friends save the world. I got my suitcase from out of his car. He bid me farewell, then took off to return back to El Zona.
After all that, in retrospective, vacation time ending couldn't have come soon enough. Now I can get back to watching Buffy slaying vampires instead of us being in Buffy's vampire slaying world.
What lies ahead of me when I get home is a mountain of e-mails since almost three weeks ago, who knows how many friend requests on Myspace, and catching up on the radio and TV news in the real world.
SDN news returns late March 31st. I gotta get some rest and I'll post some stuff then.
