Commentary: Fix The F--kin' 67 Highway! (Apr 2, 2009)I had it up to here with reports of accidents every year or so happening on state highway 67 from Lakeside to Poway.According to SDNN: The most recent deadly crash on the route occurred late Sunday morning, when a speeding car smashed into a vehicle driven by 25-year-old Chula Vista resident Alexandria Drake, who died at a hospital several hours later. Here's my solution. Just build a divided four-lane freeway between Lakeside and Ramona. This two-lane winding road isn't designed for high-speed commuting. As an alternative until the freeway is built, put in some traffic calming obstacles such as turnabouts or speed bumps every 1/4 mile to slow the traffic down. These drivers on highway 67 are total maniacs who just don't understand that these roads weren't designed to be driven at 75 or 85 MPH. Just extend the 67 freeway into Ramona, and have it connect north of Ramona to highway 78, which too should be converted into a freeway from Escondido eastwards. Or another alternative. Just tear down the road and create a low-speed zig-zag road with a maximum speed of 25 MPH all the way from Lakeside to Ramona. It would then be impossible to drive at such high speeds. Thoughts?
