It's The High Cost of Housing, Stupid! (Sep 25, 2008)Why is the economy tanking? The high cost of housing! This is San Diego, not 90210! The average price of a house is affordable if you're a TV actor, but not for a blue collar worker. Why are the real estate barons benefitting while us taxpayers are footing the bill for the people who can't afford an overpriced house? This isn't fair. Why are the people who can't afford the house getting federal aid? They should be getting aid from the real estate barons who overpriced the houses in the first place! $500,000 for a 1,000 square foot house is ridiculous! Most of us don't need two story houses with 3,000 square feet and big yards. What are these planners thinking? What are they smoking? Buying a house you can't afford with voodoo loans (sub-prime lending) is what drove up the prices of the houses, but who sets the prices of the houses, space aliens? Can't we get some kind of regulation for the housing industry so that this overpricing of housing doesn't happen ever again? We're turning into a poor nation, thanks mostly to the high cost of housing. Government needs to step in and get these prices down back to normal. Rents are too high. Wages are too low thanks to a global market. People can't afford to live by themselves. Colleges are too expensive. Well paid jobs are getting harder to attain. Three-generation households are becoming more common. Us taxpayers shouldn't foot the bill to bail out the people who took out a voodoo house loan whose monthly payment ballooned up after three years and can't afford to make the payments anymore. These people should have their houses repossessed and the people be moved into poor people housing. The real estate barons who sold the overpriced houses should be penalized by the government and lose their licenses to sell houses. The banks and lenders should get the money back from the real estate barons so they could lend money to honest people who truly want to buy and keep a house. The banks shouldn't be stuck with the houses. They should get the money back from whoever sold them the houses. For the poor people who can't afford a house, we should build more poor people housing with one room that doubles as a bedroom, a kitchen, and a bathroom for one person with low rent no more than $200 a month. We can't allow homeless cultures to grow in the inner cities. We need to round them up and place them into some kind of debtors prison until they build up their assets. Looks like both the poor and the rich are to blame for this economic mess. What kind of country are we living in if we have cities where only 10 percent of the population can afford a house? Let's get some price controls of housing under way so we could begin to get this economy back on track. We also need to build trailer parks near where many people work so that they won't need to go on long commutes into another county to work and home. That will reduce the amount of gasoline consumption right there. People need to stop dreaming about things they can't afford, then wake up and smell the coffee. Parents and adult siblings are co-living in the same homes. This is a result of a bad economy as it is today. We need to get this economy fixed at all costs now.
