A big fat bronx jeer to the greedy suits at Wal-Fart, 'cuse me, Wal-Mart. Faced with a union that planned to take over the store there, the firm decided that they didn't want to share the wealth and closed up their store in a Canadian City.
According to the wires, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. says it will close one of its Canadian stores, just as some 200 workers at the location are near winning the first-ever union contract from the world's largest retailer.
Wal-Mart said it was shuttering the store in Jonquiere, Quebec, in response to unreasonable demands from union negotiators that would make it impossible for the store to sustain itself.
Union leaders dismissed Wal-Mart's reasons for closing the store, which was that it was loosing money, and promised to fight the move, which is strange because people were probably boycotting it because they knew that their hard-working underpaid Wal-Mart workers weren't getting paid a fair share of the fat profits Wal-Mart was enjoying. The same thing goes for the folks in the states as customers shop Wal-Mart's competetors such as Sears and whatever else that pay their employees better.
"Wal-Mart has fired these workers not because the store was losing money but because the workers exercised their right to join a union," Michael J. Fraser, national director of UFCW Canada, said in a written statement. "Once again, Wal-Mart has decided it is above the law and that the only rules that count are their rules."
Sorry, but Wal-Mart doesn't understand the meaning of "Sharing the Wealth," as it makes enough money to pay their workers more without substantially raising the costs of their wares they sell. So what if one of their lousy China-made DVD players that break down while I watch a Charmed DVD is raised by a nickel!
This kind of bad publicity is going to snowball very fast and cause more people to think about where their money is really going to. It just shows you that Wal-Mart doesn't care about their employees when they would rather close a store than to pay their workers more. This speaks volumes about the correlation between Wal-Mart and China: both pay pittance wages to their workers. Don't buy stuff made in China, and don't shop at Wal-Mart.
Instead, shop at Amazon where you see the banners on my website. Screw Wal-Mart!
Idiot Businesses: Carl's Jr. Raises Prices (Feb 11, 2005)
It's strange that a business claims that raising the minimum wage will mean that they would have to raise
their prices or leave the state, yet they continue to raise their prices year by year without raising
the wages above minimum wage.
The minimum wage, as low as it is, and in fact, too low, hasn't been higher than $6.75 an hour in California in three years, yet these fast food businesses that employ them keep raising their prices. How do they expect me to afford their crummy food if they keep raising their prices, but the wages don't go any higher? I'll eat somewhere else. They can take their four-dollar Six Dollar Burger and shove it up their @$$! Drop the prices or pay the workers more money. Share the wealth!
People who agree with me can send me money by clicking on this button to donate $10 to David Tanny. Minimum wage needs to get higher as San Diego has turned into a city with high tech and low-wage, but fewer middle wage jobs. This isn't the way a city should be.
