Sure, we get Christmas-ized ads during the so-called holiday season. We get spooky-themed ads during Halloween weeks. We get patriotic music during Independence Day and Presidents Day. Love songs for Valentines and so forth and so forth.
Where's the hype for Martin Luther Day? Let's get some MLK themed ads on the radio and TV! I want people to know its that kind of holiday time when they hear the hype about buying stuff for the holiday weekend on the medium!
Yesterday was Martin Luther King Eve, where at night, we gather around our dinner tables, say a prayer, and give thanks to God for bringing in people over the past who have contributed to help make mankind better by freeing the people of African origin from slavery, repression, inequalities, racism, and segregation among others.
It's time Martin Luther King Day, a day where families and friends get together to watch or read the classic "I Have a Dream" speech the Reverend King once proudly said almost 40 years ago. On the day after MLK Day, we go to the stores to shop for clearance holiday items during their brief After Martin Luther King Day Sale on Tuesday.
You could find the "Dream" speech on a search engine. I have a dream that MLK Day will finally be given the same level of holiday treatment as the other holidays on the calendar are. I have a dream that this form of holiday racism will come to an end and people of any color will be proud enough to observe the holiday on the same level as the other holidays in the calendar. I have a dream that one day, the media will have wall to wall MLK themed advertising to bring awareness of the newest national holiday to millions of people who just don't know that today's holiday should ring a bell to them.
And lastly, I have a dream that there will soon be a holiday named after yours truly. Thank you and goodnight.
