Mondays are a time we break from the normal radio, TV, and Internet radio reporting to bring you some things for you to think about.
I've just about had it with Windows 9.x, 3.x, NT, 2000, XP, ME, YOU, THEM, whatever!
Upgrading is a hassle! Drivers don't work with the new OS. Programs don't work with the new OS. Your computer is put out of commission for days while the upgrading process takes place. Evil authors write worms and viruses that wreak havoc on whatever OS you have installed on your hard drive.
Did I say HARD DRIVE? By Joe, I think I got it!
The real reason why all these hassles and inconvieiences keep cropping up? Stupid Microsoft is putting their OS on a CD instead of those old ROM cartridges that the good old Atari VCS pioneered way back in the 1970s!
You have upgraded a computer OS before, right? The only OS I upgraded in my life was DOS 5 to DOS 6.2 while it was running under Windows 3.1! That's as far as I'm going to go when upgrading OS's!
I'm not going to go deep into the tech stuff with the OS innards and other installation crap that you're already familiar with, but I just don't see why whoever makes these IBM clone motherboards (with a Intel or AMD chip for the processor) can't figure out a way to create a motherboard with a cartridge jack, just like one you see on those video game units such as Atari and Intellivision, specially made for the operating system!
Think of how much simpler it would be to upgrade the OS! Just take out the old cartridge with the old OS and plug in a new one, turn on the power, and voila! You're upgraded!
What about drivers and customized settings for your computer? The default settings are stored on the cart, but theoritically, your hard drive could store the upgraded settings for your computer including those from the dreaded Registry and ini files and other customized stuff.
Someone sends you a virus and crashes your OS? Just turn off the power, reboot, override the problem areas. The OS should figure out what got trashed and replace the junked settings with the most recent settings that was saved prior to the shutdown before a virus junked your registry and other stuff.
Of course, it's a lot more complex than what my theory goes, but one of these days, someone will create a computer that is crash-proof, immune to viruses, can be upgraded easily, and can emulate any OS dating back to the days of CP/M in case anyone still cares about that.
Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for someone to create a QBASIC For Windows program. Visual Basic is so confusing with all its object terminology and dot this and dot that for changing this and that and I just threw the software in the trash and gave up! QBASIC is easy to write and simple to understand.
Make the programs simple, you stupid moron computer programmers!
