2007-Eastern
On this date, NBC cancelled "Passions (S)" and moved the network hour to the 10am ET hour
so it could be used for a fourth hour of "Today." On the central and pacific time zones,
the fourth "Today" hour competes with the 11am ET shows on ABC and CBS airing at 10am
CT/PT on those time zones. No network programs at the noon ET hour, and only CBS has
the 12:30pm ET half hour for itself with "Restless", a show that had gotten so popular
since the beginning in 1973 that it helped decimate NBC's daytime schedule and
changed ABC's focus into a major soap opera daypart once enjoyed by NBC back
in the day.

In mid-2009, CBS cancels the long-running soap opera "Guiding Light (S)"
and would replace it with an hour-long revival of "Let's Make a Deal" in October.
It would be a long time since CBS ran a game show in the 3-3:30 and 3:30-4pm
time slots.

In some time zones, CBS affilliates ran the 3pm ET/2pm CT&PT "Price is Right" at
10am ET/9am CT&PT. Following that on October 5, that time slot would be airing
"Let's Make a Deal". Before that, "Guiding Light" aired on the earlier time slot
on some CBS affilliates. There are no plans at that time for CBS to make the 10am ET
slot a national pattern, though CBS is feeding "LMAD" to some affilliates that want to
air it at 9am (PT,CT,ET), 10am (ET), 2pm (PT,CT), or 3pm (ET) in their local time zone time.

Some NBC affilliates air "Days of Our Lives" at 2pm or 12pm in some markets not
related to the time zone they are in. NBC affilliates can run "Days" any time on their
schedule.

In April of 2011, ABC cancelled All My Children and One Life to Live.
The lineup from All My Children (S) through General Hospital (S)
had been intact since January 16, 1978.
When All My Children leaves the lineup,
the entire three-soap lineup would have been intact for 33 years and 8 months.
It's a record for a network lineup on American TV and its unlikely
to be repeated anywhere since then.

In the fall of 2012, ABC plans to return the 3pm ET hour to local stations.
Their plan is for the affilliates to purchase a new show hosted by Katie Couric that
Disney is putting into syndication. Note that when a show is offered to TV stations via
syndication, not just the same affilliated stations will necessarily get the rights to
air the show.

As of July 2011, there are no plans to cancel General Hospital yet, nor do we yet know
of ABC's alternate plans for the fall of 2012. Could GH fill the 2pm ET slot if
The Revolution fails, or could ABC cut GH in half and slot it at 2:30, after
another half-hour show? We'll know later.
