Fast Food Fish Reviews (Updated where noted)
These tests were paid for by me and none of the sandwiches were paid for by anybody.
These fish sandwiches named above are what you will get when you buy them at the restaurants.
Your taste may vary.
Der Wienerschnitzel's Sea Dog (Mar 11, 2011)
Der Wienerschnitzel's Sea Dog. Reg price: $1.79.
Has 6x1 inch fish patty, lettuce, light mayo, and hot dog bun.
Fish was deep fried, making me a bit nauseaous. The mayo was a bit heavy. The bun had no flavor. It was basically a plain boring fish patty served in a hot dog bun.
My rating: C.
What could have saved it? Make it like a real hot dog with mustard, relish, and onions.
Der Wienerschnitzel's Fish Wrap (Mar 11, 2011)
Der Wienerschnitzel's Fish Wrap. Reg price: $1.79.
Has 6x1 inch fish patty, lettuce, light dressing, and tortilla.
Fish was deep fried, making me a bit nauseaous. The dressing had poor body and weak flavor. The tortilla was soggy due to the pourous dressing used.
When you take it apart so you can see what it looks like inside, it doesn't look appetizing at all. Yucch!
My rating: D.
What could have saved it? Nothing much. It sucks.
Carl's Jr. Catch Fish Sandwich (Mar 6, 2010)
Carl's Jr. Catch Fish Sandwich. Reg price: $3.89. Special price: N.A.
Too much tartar sauce, ok amount of lettuce, tomato, fish is average size, moist, soft, and a bit
greasy, no onion, no pickle, and no cheese (note: no cheese is a plus).
50 out of 75 points for quality. Price it should be for what you get: $1.99.
Grade for quality and regular price: C minus.
Carl's Jr. needs to get a Six Dollar Fish Sandwich with all the trimmings of a regular burger
to make it earn the $3.69 its priced at.
Burger King BK Fish (Mar 6, 2010)
Burger King BK Fish. Reg price: not listed, but around $3.19. Special price: $1.49.
Too much tartar sauce, ok amount of lettuce, no tomato, fish patty is large, moist crisp, but way
too greasy, no onion, no pickle, and no cheese.
40 out of 75 points for quality. Price it should be for what you get: $1.49.
Grade for quality and regular price: F.
Burger King needs to grill the fish sandwiches instead of deep frying them.
Their fish patties are the greasiest of the five: only Long John Silvers' fish is worse.
This is the Whopper Jr. sandwich for $1.49.
It has lettuce, onions, pickles, and tomatoes. What if the BK Fish Sandwish had the trimmings
of the Whopper Jr. Sandwich?
Voila: The BK Big Fish Deluxe.
Now that's one tasty fish sandwich. The way they should make it.
McDonald's Filet O'Fish (Mar 6, 2010)
McDonald's Filet O'Fish. Reg price: $3.49. Special price: $1.29.
Has 3x3 patty, small slab of American cheese, tartar sauce, and a hamburger bun.
Moderate tartar sauce, no lettuce, no tomato, fish patty is average size, moist, soft, and not greasy, no onion, no pickle, but prescence of cheese (a minus). 40 out of 75 points for quality. Price it should be for what you get: 99 cents.
McDonald's treats their fish sandwich like an outcast compared to the many varieties it gives to his beef patties (Quarter Pounder, Big Mac, etc.) and makes it more like a plain hamburger than doing something interesting with it. Their plain hamburgers are tastier by comparison.
Grade for quality and regular price: F.
McDonalds' fish sandwich overall is the skimpiest of the five. It should be 99 cents,
the price of a cheeseburger.
Wendy's Premium Fish Fillet (Mar 7, 2011)
Wendy's Premium Fish Fillet. Price: $3.69.
Moderate tartar sauce, lettuce, no tomato, no onion, no pickle, and no cheese.
Fish fillet is moist, crisp, and not greasy. Grade B.
Wendy's beats Carl's fish sandwiches because Wendy's fish is less greasy and doesn't overdo it
on the tartar sauce, but Wendy's could use a tomato to match what Carl's offers.
Improving Wendy's Fish Sandwich (Mar 6, 2010)
Let's buy Wendy's Jr. Cheeseburger Deluxe for 99 cents. It has onions, pickles, ketchup, cheese, mayo, and lettuce.
Now we take the onions, pickles, ketchup, mayo, and lettuce, and put it in the Wendy's Fish Fillet,
and we have a much more improved tastier fish sandwich. That's the way it should be made!
Jack in the Box Fish Filet (Mar 30, 2011)
